Reaping Day

The District 5 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 29th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

.:The two tributes "Marcelina Kovac and Chase Tobias" had been chosen for slaughter, all that would be left would be to cart them off for their grand appearance in the Capitol. "Now then, are there any volunteers?" The escort asked as their two tributes joined them, on stage.

Reaping day was not something that many outside of The Capitol would call a very happy day. it was a tainted day in the history of the Kovac family.
Life in District 5 had been one thing, but there was always a threat--there were always dark clouds looming overhead, and when one storm passed, another one blew in.
This was what the reapings felt like anyways.

but... it was time to go through the grind. it was just as they agreed.
She had been over this with Verena many times before. If one of them was chosen, the other one was not to flip out. Augustine's little scene a few years ago was still deeply branded into Marcelina's mind.

she was reminded of how much she disliked wearing a dress; her legs felt more exposed than she liked... or maybe it was just because she felt like a carbon-copy of everyone else here. bah, that was the least of her problems. first up it was praying to the RN Goddess that the odds would be in her favor.
The odds were against her though, and she heard her name. welp, this was it... it was time for her to die.
She had to at least give her remaining sibling a last set of comforting words.
"Ver," She began, "you know the drill."
Verena did not exactly look comforted,but she wasn't in a frenzy either.

“May the odds...” Marcelina began, cracking a smirk.
“...make it true that when you’re mortally wounded in an excruciatingly painful way, your body goes into shock and you don’t feel anything as you die.” Verena finished, and Marcelina gave her one last hug before stepping up to the stage. her expression was utterly stony, as most tribute's expressions were.

then that one boy... Henry, she thought it was; she wasn't exactly an expert with names, went up and volunteered. well, this may not have been like 10, 11, or 12 , but still... volunteering for a death tournament was not exactly on Marcelina's bucket list. she knew he liked her... but this was the end of their relationship either way now.

"What are you doing?" she whispered, "you know that we're gonna die, right? even if one of us wins, that's still just *one* of us..."
then again, she wasn't speaking very loudly, so there was a full possibility that Henry had missed the entirety of what she had said. after all, she wasn't about to try and speak over the escort.
