The District 8 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 29th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Ryan signed in before either of his sisters, who were taking their time to get to the justice building. Quietly, he went to his spot. As he waited, he crossed his fingers, hoping for Isa and Rose to be safe this year.

Dove skipped to the justice building whistling a happy song. she flinched a bit as the peacekeeper pricked her hand. but she didnt really care. she merilly skipped to her age group and smiled as she looked around. looking at all the sad faces. she honestly didnt see the point of being sad. she watched as the lady from the capitol intently pulled a name from the bowl of female names.

I'm not afraid. Everybody else is afraid. But I'm not. The only reason it'd be bad if I got reaped is my mother would probably die. But that doesn't make me scared of the games. I don't fear death, I welcome it. I stand with the other 17 year old boys, who all seem to be shaking. I just stare at the ground, feeling bad for all the scared kids around me. But it pisses me off how people say, why me? Why not someone else? Why you? Because your name is written on a slip, or maybe a few slips in that bowl. If somebody else was reaped they'd be saying the same. So stop moping and try to win. I stand and wait for the names to be called.

"It's alright, just wait and see..."

Rosalee was very nervous for her first reaping. She knew that her name was only in their once, but it was still nerve racking. The idea of dying was awful, and she was shaking slightly. Her hair was in a braid down her back and she wore a little pink dress with white shoes. She looked at her brother and sister for the last time before hearing the escort say the names.

Rosalee Turbine. The name echoed in her mind as she stood half frozen in fear and distress. The peace keepers pushed her on the stage, where she had to blink away the tears that were slowly forming. She couldn't cry in front of the capital, not when the other tributes might see this film. Rose looked from her brother to her sister, not being able to speak. This was horrifying. This was what Ryan and Isa had told her wouldn't happen, and now what? Death seemed to be looming in front of her.

Biting her lip, she waited to hear if there were any volunteers. She doubted there would be, because she wasn't going to let Isa die for her, that wasn't right. Rose played with the hem of her dress, looking at the bottom of the stage.

I sigh, looks like I didn't get picked. I'm not sad about it though. I'm happy. I can keep my mother alive and maybe, just maybe, get us out of poverty. The poor kids who did get picked though, they look really afraid. I stand, waiting for my ok to leave.

Medea made her way through the crowds, bumping into people the whole way. She had a tight grip on her two sister's hands and wouldn't even think of letting go. She got checked in and put into her appropriate spot and stood there looking around at all the other kids who had gathered for the event. She looked across from her and saw Sep. She gave him a small wave and smile, trying to make him feel a little better. Knowing him he was probably in one of his grumpy phases. That was when the names were called, first the girls. Rosalee Turbine, Medea didn't know her but she looked like she could have not been more than 12 or 13. Then it came time for the boy to be chosen. Medea sighed a bit in relief, she hadn't been picked and that was fortunate. But then the escort read the name, Septimus Fleming and Medea's heart sank deep into her stomach. Her mouth dropped and her eyes widened. She could only stand in silence as he walked onto the stage before she moved to the aisle and screamed out, "SEPPY!! NO!!" Her voice carried itself above the crowd and to Sep. She just couldn't see him go, not now.
