Still Waters

Jett sat down on the blanket, scanning their surroundings. The lake looked glassy, but there was definitely somethings swimming in it. She made a mental note not to get water from that area. Her left arm was still a bit numb from the vampire rainbow butterfly, but it wasn't as bad as it was before. The tribute was turning her knife over in her hand, noticing the butterfly blood on it.

Her green eyes were glassy, and she wished that she would be back at home, fighting with her sisters instead of stupid butterflies. Jett sighed and wiped the butterfly blood off on her sweatshirt, not minding that it would be stained rainbow colors. When Pyrite sat down next to her, she did her best to manage a smile. "How are you holding up?" she asked softly. Jett couldn't manage much more than a soft voice. Fighting the mutt had taken a lot of her strength.

Pyrite smiled at Jett's smile. He ran his hand along his arm where the butterfly had hit him, grimacing ever so slightly. He heard her question and realised he hadn't said anything for a while. He'd just been thinking.

"I'm holding up okay. Better now we can just sit here and talk."

He thought about what to do next. He kept thinking about their star-crossed lover angle. Not a lot had been going on there, yet. The air had started to grow slightly colder. He pulled the blanket over himself a little bit more, turning to Jett.

"And you? You don't exactly look yourself. Still pretty all the same."

That little snippet would at least give the sponsors something to think about. It may even keep them alive a little longer. He let his mind drift again, this time to Jett. Why hadn't they met back home? Things could have been different. Shame, really. It happened a lot, thinking about it. Tributes didn't meet until the Games, then the situation in there forced them together. He tried to clear his head, noticing that through all this thinking, he'd glazed over. He was staring into the sky. He turned back to Jett, waiting for an answer.

Suddenly, a silver parachute falls gently from above onto Pyrite's head. It appears to be a medicine kit. At the same time, Pyrite notices that someone is calling to him, wnd desperately wants to find out who, but Jett cannot hear it.

She didn't answer. She was already slipping into dreams, and Pyrite followed swiftly afterwards.

The first Pyrite knew of his slumber was when he was sat, bolt upright, with light poking through the trees behind him. Judging by where he was, he'd fallen asleep snuggled under the blanket with Jett. The screaming was still going on. How was she still sleeping through it? He grabbed his axes and slowly nudged Jett with his foot. She gave a half-hearted sigh and rolled over before going back to sleep. Pyrite felt uncomfortable. They'd slept, they had to keep moving. That was when he felt the soft knock of a metal ball on his head. He grabbed the parachute and tore at it, opening the rather large ball and pulling out a medical kit. This could be very useful. He elected to put it in his picnic basket, not needing it at the moment. He heard footsteps and a scream in the distance. He whipped around, brandishing his axes. Nothing.

He sat down and curled up into a ball next to Jett, his axes by his side, trying to drown out the sounds. He was visibly shaken, and just wanted to stay where he was, where he felt safe.

Jett had fallen asleep quickly, and maybe to easily. It might've just been the dreams she was having, or the fact that she was exhausted from attacking a butterfly. She woke after being nudged, probably by Pyrite. The tribute woke up and shook him lightly. "I'm up," she said softly. She could hear something, and thought that they should keep moving.

Jett got up and stretched before grabbing her things. "Come on Pyrite, let's keep moving." she said softly. She didn't want to be too loud, but she wanted him to get up soon. The tribute sighed, seeing him wake. They were up and leaving within a few minutes.
