PostSubject: District 4 Train   Sat Jan 11, 2014 11:57 am

It had been a rough day for Rob so far. He felt a little nervous about everything, but he hid it all with his arrogant smile and played it off. However, it's easier to explain from the beginning.

He woke up that morning, ready to see which tributes were going in. He put on a nice jacket with a tie and white shirt underneath. His younger brother wasn't quite eligible for the reapings yet, but Robert had him come anyway. So he helped him get ready, tucking his shirt in for him and let him put his shoes on before they set off out of their house. It was a short walk to the justice building, thankfully. When they got there, he had his brother go off to the side to wait for him. Robert walked over to get a blood sample taken from him and went to join the crowd of sixteen year olds. He watched and waited, growing quite bored as time went on...then it was time for the names to be called. The girl was called, but Rob didn't pay attention to that. He was about to start leaving, trying to get out as fast as he could, when he heard his name. Surely that couldn't have been his name, right? But sure enough, that was it as people began to clear a path for him. The look of surprise on his face immediately turned into a smile as he went up to the stage.

Later he was shoved into a room where he was supposed to say his goodbyes. Surprisingly, it turned out he had a lot of visitors. Friends from school, girls that made up random crap that made him want to laugh, but finally, came the most important visitor of all. His brother. He wrapped his arms around him and whispered, "It'll be okay...I'll come back, no matter what. No one will stand in my way, hear me?" His brother nodded and Rob ruffled his hair. When his brother left he turned around and made his way to the train.

So, here he was, on the train. He was sitting on one of the cushioned chairs, having gotten a glass of grape juice. Most people he knew didn't like the taste, but to Robert it was a rare delicacy him and his brother could only afford every once in a while. He set it on the table, and leaned back in the chair. He wondered if the female tribute already came in and went into her room or if she was saying her goodbyes. He just shrugged it off and waited for someone to show up.

There was no words that could describe the pounding in Deluna's chest. Maybe a few. Terrifying. Disgusting. Helpless. Hatred. Those were just a few of the more fitting words that passed through her mind as she said goodbye to the woman who had essentially raised her. Vivienne was an old woman now, and could still take care of herself. If she was to die, the tribute wanted to die at home, where she belonged. She didn't want to leave the person she owed her life to alone.

"You'll be fine sweetie, you always were."

She had to be fine. She had to come back. There was no other option in her mind. Her reaping outfit was one of her caretaker's old dresses, from way back. The worn fabric covered most of the teenager, the designs still visible. The clothing wasn't exactly Deluna's style, but it made Vivienne happy, so she wore it. Anything for Vivienne. Keep her happy, keep her okay, come back. Thoughts were running wild in her mind as she boarded the train, not noticing who else was on it with her. The tribute didn't care, honestly. She had to survive, and she could do it alone.

Traveling among the cars, her eyes flicking back and forth, she noticed the male tribute. He looked vaguely familiar, but everyone did. She picked up one of the sweets off the several tables, and took a seat across him. Silence was the only thing that remained, despite the soft clicking of the train cars. Deluna didn't need to talk to the other tribute. She just needed to be the one to make it home.

Robert noticed the female tribute get onto the train as he leaned forward to take a sip of his drink. He sat back, the drink still in hand and waited for her to say something...only she didn't. When he thought about it, she looked familiar to him. Although, he didn't know why she looked familiar...he brushed it off in his head and sat forward a little. "You sure are quiet aren't you? Well, maybe a nice start would be proper introductions." He put his glass in his left hand and extended his right. "Robert Lenford, although you probably know my name already. I remembered yours. Deluna, right?" His smile was a friendly one, not his usual arrogant one.

Deluna took small bites of the food, not quite sure if she liked the taste. Capitol food was rich and sweet, very unlike the average diet of a poor girl. She ate it anyways, enjoying the filled feeling in her stomach. Liking powder off of her fingers, the tribute glanced back over at the boy. The comment should've made her laugh, but it didn't, she just stared blankly at him.

The girl nodded at him, glancing down at his hand. She hesitantly took it and shook it, removing herself from the physical contact shortly afterwards. "Yes," Deluna responded, setting her hands in her lap. Her icy eyes floated over the train car, overwhelmed by the shiny surfaces and small details. Everything was set to perfection, the kind that would normally make her crinkle her nose. Right now, she was resisting the urge to do so.

Rob noticed that she actually was pretty quiet, noting that she seemed to try to speak as little as possible. He leaned back, taking another sip of grape juice. "This must suck, huh? Being dragged off to the Capitol...you don't seem like the career type. No offense. I'm not that interested in being a career myself actually." He sighed, but drained the rest of his juice as he did so and set it on the table. "So, you a career or the type that works to support a family like me?" He was smiling, and he realized that he was trying to get her to smile. Why he hadn't realized this before, he didn't know. It was always his goal to make someone smile.

Deluna simply nodded in response, running her fingertips lazily over the designs on the hem of her dress. It did suck. Tremendously. She was ripped from the only place she dared to call home, and left someone who needed her all alone, just so the Capitol could have it's game. The tribute would do anything to win their game. "Yes, it does," she agreed softly.

The mention of 'career' made her grip the armrests of her chair. Careers were over-confident pets of the Capitol, just pawns in the quest for entertainment. "I won't be a career," Deluna remarked instantly. She exhaled, running a hand over her thick hair. "I need to get home, just like everyone else," she added, placing one of her ankles over the other. His smile made her somewhat uncomfortable, but she returned it weakly. Everyone wanted to get home, but it was her job to make sure that she was the one to return to the beaches of district four.

Robert nodded and stood up. "Then we're definitely gonna get along." He chuckled and walked back over to the fridge, almost amazed at the selection of drinks. Then, he had an idea. He went through some cabinets finding sugar and vanilla extract. He then went through the fridge and found syrup and milk. He took those out as well and got a glass, pouring some milk into it and got a spoon. He put two spoonfuls of sugar into the milk, added a bit of syrup, added a tiny bit of vanilla extract and began to stir. He listened as the spoon delicately clanged against the glass and after about ten seconds of stirring, he stopped and began to put all the ingredients away and put the spoon wherever. He took the glass of milk and sipped it, smiling at the taste. "Haven't had this in ages..." He sat back down in his spot and sipped at it once more. "Anyway, to me, careers make me sick...they're able to train to be able to fight and throw their lives away while the rest of us work for our families..." He shakes his head and takes another sip of the strange concoction of milk.

Raising a thick eyebrow at his comment, the girl went back to her staring at nothing. There was plenty to look at in the train car, but she didn't want to. Every beautiful object that surrounded her seemed foreign and poisonous, like she didn't belong her. Deluna hadn't ever felt so alone and lost in her life. Sure, surviving on her own had been hard, but here on this train to her death, she was truly alone.

Glancing back up at the boy, Robert or something, she simply nodded again. "That's what the Capitol does to people," she muttered, reaching for a pastry to the side of her. It was small, but probably full of richness and sugar. Biting into the dessert, she tasted strawberry. Deluna's favorite food was strawberries, but it was something that never came to district four. Tasting her favorite food from the Capitol seemed like treason. Swallowing, she felt the dessert go down slowly and agonizingly. "I wouldn't want to live like that."

Robert simply nodded in response and sipped at his milk. He put it on the table and wiped the trace it left with the back of his hand. "Wonder when our mentor is gonna get here..." He sighed and leaned back against the armrest, putting his legs over the other and looked up at the ceiling. "I think the realness of this is starting to hit me...more than a hundred people have been in our shoes right now...and the majority of them are dead..." He chuckled and shook his head. "Aren't I a ray of sunshine?"

Ben slid through the door to the compartment his tributes were in quietly, making nary a noise. He was quite frustrated with the noted absence of Hunter Smith these past few games. Mainly because it forced him to mentor again, and Ben hated mentoring. It was far too depressing, looking at these kids and knowing how bleak their futures probably were. Aside from that, his mind wasn't in it. Instead, it was still caught up with thoughts or something, or rather someone in district two. A very young someone.

Regardless, Ben had to do his best to help these kids, no one else was going to do it, obviously. He heard the boy speak, "Aren't I a ray of sunshine." Taking this as his cue to hop into the conversation, he stepped away from the door, grabbing a muffin off one of the platters and walking between the tributes to the chair across from them. He sat down and took a bite of it, pointing at the boy. "Ray of sunshine wasn't the first thing that popped into my mind, but if you want to go with that, I'm sure District Two will be both baffled and intimidated" he said, his tone cool, but not rude or disrespectful.

Deluna didn't answer his question, and just stared at everything again. There was plenty to see after all. Everything was interesting to look at, bothersome and expensive, but interesting. Hearing Robert talk about all the tributes that died before them made her uncomfortable. Fidgeting in her chair, the girl almost didn't notice their mentor walk in.

He looked familiar. She remembered trying to fight in the tournament, he was in it too. Averting her gaze, the tribute twirled her thumbs around. "District Two?" she repeated dully, her gaze flicking up at their mentor. "Should we care about district two?" Her distaste for the careers was evident, and Deluna didn't really care. She had reason to hate people, they didn't do anything for her, so she didn't feel the need to do anything for them.

Robert grinned when their mentor commented on what he said. "I think the District two kids could use some sunshine. Too much time indoors training...but they have a worse tan than me." He sat up a bit more and looked to Deluna as she began to speak. When she finished, he responded with, "We probably should care about District Two. If we aren't going to be in their alliance and we reject them, then they'll probably take offense to that and come hunting for us...then again, all they would have is them and District One. I don't feel like being a career...might join up with some other tributes. Help them out a bit...maybe District Ten or Twelve." He picked up his glass of milk and took a sip of it, sighing in satisfaction.

Benjamin snorted at the girl's indifference. He respected the hate, marginally. He had very little against anyone from the Districts, to be honest. The girl was putting her hate there when the only person to truly blame was the Capitol. Regardless, he wasn't going to try and reason that with someone who was likely to be dead soon. "If you ignore District Two, they'll be the end of you. Like it or not, Princess, District Two has all the advantages. You have me, try not to ignore everything I say, okay? Good."

He turned to the boy, "As for you kiddo, this 'helping them out' stuff," he made the quotation gesture with his fingers at this, "Is a surefire way to do. If you're planning on dying, then sure, go for it." he noted, waving his hand dismissively before continuing. "If you want to win, don't try to help anyone but yourself. Being selfish is a very helpful quality to come by for a tribute"
