Dane Zelker
District Ten

One of those days, it was just....well one of those days. A day with a clear sky, pretty decent weather and nothing really exciting going on in the world. Well, except the games but those just seemed like an everyday thing. Kind of like breathing or waking up in the morning or eating. They were just something that was there, in the background that happened that everyone just did because it was what you did if you wanted to live.  Basically they were just something that wasn't even important in Dane's life, even though it consumed many other people's. He never feared at the reapings and never had that 'I almost pissed myself' feeling while he stood in that crowd. But maybe he was just weird that way, or maybe he just couldn't be bothered with it. Either way though, it was at the back of his mind. The impending possibility of his demise at the hands of some other kid in some horrible, terrible and painful way.

Instead of watching the games like some people were doing he decided he wanted to actually enjoy his time. Besides....there weren't any attractive females that he felt like following closely those games anyways. Dane just decided to walk, maybe be on the prowl and look around for someone interesting and maybe meet someone or two; or even meet up with someone he already knew. The possibilities were positively endless. The upper district was where he decided he would spend his time; there had to be something interesting going on it town right? He skipped his normal hangout spot in the fields because this was far more promising in the hunt for a few ladies. And if worst came to worst at least he had the chance to sneak a few good looks at someone right?

With no better way to procrastinate actual farm work, Violet found herself roaming around the upper district. She waved to a few familiar street vendors, glared at a few enemies, smiled at a few friends. She sighed. How is it that we live in a world where the government annually tortures and kills 23 teenagers as part of a huge celebratory event and I still manage to be bored out of my mind? she wondered. You'd think there'd be more wild parties, what with the higher possibility of death and stuff. When was the last time I went to a party? Okay, when was the last time I heard about a party after it had already happened and wasn't invited or notified because I punched some guy in the face at that one kid's barn party? Whatever, he totally deserved it, sort of, and parties overrated anyway. Had he deserved it? Violet couldn't remember. He'd probably gotten too close to one of her friends or thrown up on her or something, but it had been a while. Lost in her thoughts, Violet hardly noticed when she walked straight into someone else. She stumbled back, barely managing to keep her balance, and bumping into someone's egg cart, which somehow remained intact. "Sorry," she muttered to the egg merchant, who was scowling at her, and turned back to the person she'd originally crashed into. She would've said something along the lines of 'watch where you're going', but it was clearly her fault. "Sorry, I spaced ou- do I know you?"  Violet could swear this guy looked familiar, and she wasn't sure it was because of something good.

Dane Zelker
District Ten

The impact came suddenly, as he turned around and almost knocked him off balance. He shuffled around on his feet a bit before he regained a sense of his equilibrium and stood again on solid ground it felt like and turned, almost expecting to see a much bigger person behind him. But that wasn't exactly the case, and almost slightly embarrassed, a hard feat to accomplish really, at the fact that he had been almost knocked over so easily by a girl. A pretty girl to be exact. The kind of girl that seemed to need Dane's attention really. Because at the end of the day every pretty girl needed Dane's attention.

A wide grin spread across Dane's face as the girl seemed to recognize and speak to him. Come to think of it she started to look a little familiar as well, but at first glance he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Was she someone who he had run into in the past? Possibly made an impression (good or bad) on? Had there possibly some sort of action in their past that he needed to dig out of his thick skull before he said something stupid or possibly got slapped? Then it hit him as hard as if he ran into a brick wall or got trampled by a pack of angry bulls. "Hey cow girl." His grin wide and exposing his pearly whites as if he was a shark ready to chomp down on his prey, knowing full well his statement could be taken two different ways but just letting her choose how she decided to take it. Of course he really meant it literally, she was the girl with the run away cow that he helped wrangle up. But of course that didn't stop him from implying she might be a hot cowgirl at all.

Violet's eyes widened at the nickname, and the memories came rushing back to her. She nodded. "Right, right, from that time Julip escaped. Thanks for that, by the way. If you call me cow girl again, though, I will be forced to cut off your tongue and feed it to my dogs."  Violet smiled sweetly at Dane and chuckled, but she wasn't entirely kidding. "My name's Violet. Not fond of nicknames, if it wasn't obvious. I'll let the first one slide for memory-jogging purposes." Violet crossed her arms over her chest and shifted her body so her weight went to one hip. "Whatcha doin' way out here, anyway? More cows to chase? Violet narrowed her eyes. There was no obvious purpose she could discern from... his appearance. What was his name again? Violet scoured her brain but didn't come up with much. Dale something? Darryl? Darren? "If it's something fun, I'm tagging along," she added. Violet wasn't exactly the type to care about the rudeness of inviting herself along somewhere, even if she didn't know what it was.
