District 9 Reapings!

The District escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 27th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

I prayed that I would be chosen. If I didn't... Let's put it this way.

Mom said she will arange a trip to the capitol.

I saw her looking at flyers for captured Traitors-soon-to-be-avoxes.

My sisters and I could pass for traitors.

Mom doesn't like us.

"Put it all together Aya!" I thought to myself.

Azalea took a deep breath. She was wearing a new dress, a light brown one with white sandles. She was afraid that she'd become a tribute. Glen and Heather were to young, and Nalin was a year to old. Azalea was the only one in her family that could be currently placed in the games. What would happen to Heather amd Gale if she ended up going? She didn't know. Nalin worked all day, so he would have to ask a neighbor to watch them.
Shut up, Azalea. You have to calm yourself down. Azalea sighed, and clasped her hands in front of her, and looked down at the ground.

.:With a snatch of a paper among thousands, the small envelope was pulled from the big glass bowl. With a deadly taught silence the escort returned to the microphone. A scratch of opening paper, and the escort cleared their voice

"Miri Silverbell" they called.

.:The silence deflated like a balloon. "Now for the boys." Repeating the same process the escort loudly said into the microphone

"Luca Donners"

.:The two tributes had been chosen for slaughter, all that would be left would be to cart them off for their grand appearance in the Capitol. "Now then, are there any volunteers?" The escort asked as their two tributes joined them on stage.

When she heard her name called, Miri couldn't move. This was too much. I.... I.... no. This isn't happening. It can't be happening. What about Scarlett? What about my family? What about Scarlett's dying little brother? I can't just leave them! She had prettied herself up today, hoping no one she knew or cared about would be picked, and now... utter panic. It's me? I'm a tribute? Her hands shook as she hurried up the stage, eyes searching the crowd for her family. What am I going to do?

(OOC: Hey, um, I already have another character who was reaped for the Hunger Games, and I'd rather she be the tribute, so I think Miri needs a volunteer.)

A short girl stepped out of the crowd to volunteer, she said her name was Misty Gold. She took over Miri's spot on stage and smiled nervously at the crowd.

Miri gasped with relief, turned to Misty Gold, and gave her a quick hug. "Thank you so much. I hope you win. Good luck," she whispered to this girl who she barely knew. Miri released Misty, and practically ran back to the crowd. She found her family and tried to calm her heart, which was beating fast.

Azalea's heart did a little skip when her name wasn't called. But...Luca? Azalea had simply healped Luza, but she had felt a small connection. He had been orphaned, too. And now, he was going into slaughter. "Go-good luck." She whisperd to the passing tributes.

I cried. "NO!" I tried to get to my little sisters, but The Mother had already gotten to them. She sent them home to pack their things. Little did they know, A future of being an Avox, or worse, awaited them.

I didn't let any emotion show. I was not going to give them any satisfaction. I walked to the stairs calmly and collected. I looked at my brother. I knew he was going to cry later.

I saw Azalea, and she said good luck as I passed her. I made eye contact with her, and sent a little hope. Maybe I would try.

I was just standing there, not sure of what to do now. Do I shake the girls hand? She had volunteered, and I really felt bad for her. But still, I had no emotion. I was a rock in cold water, sinking fast, in danger of being lost.
