Scythe to Ax

Subject: Scythe to Ax Mon Jun 25, 2012 12:32 am

I knew I was in over my head, but I had practiced with a Scythe before, so why should an ax be any different? I grabbed a long handled Ax, giving a few swing of my own, finding the weight and size were close to the my home made Scythe. I smiled, and looked around for an opponent. I glanced at the instructor asking if they wanted to Spar, not sure what to do placed my upside down, and facing out. I leaned a little on it's handle, giving the perfect opportunity to knock it to the floor.

The instructor smiles and takes a spear, a common weapon in the arena, and steps into the sparring area. "Ready?" She asks the Tribute.

I gulped, Not Sure what to do. I kicked my weapon onto my hand, and twirled it around my neck, swinging the blade close to the trainers right shoulder. I stepped forwards to give more strength to it. I shortened my stance and was ready for a counterattack, waiting for the Mentor's move.

The trainer puts the butt of her spear forward to deflect the tribute's attack and then slides her fingers down to the butt and swings the spear like a large bat, aiming to sweep his feet out from under him.

I blinked in a moment of surprise, just enough time for the teacher to plop me onto my back, I knew that I would have lost, then and there. Standing, I moved to the left an dpicked up my axe, not even waiting for a remark from the teacher, I ttwirled on my spot, not fast, but strong. Using that momentuim, I snapped back the axe, causing the head to fly like a ninja star towards the Mentor. I didn't even begin to stop there, but took a lunge, the sharp broken end facing outwards.

The trainer drops to his back, avoiding the flying axe, and kicks at the tribute from the ground with both legs together.

Both, my legs fold, underneath me, causing me, to fall. In Determination I place all my weight onto the stick, coming down fast at the mentor, but realising only to late, my side was vunerable to kill. I sighed inwardly, My fellow tributes won't be so stupid, and I will never be on the Careers like this.

The trainer rolls to the side, avoiding the spear. He then does exactly what the Tribute was expecting and punches his side.

I fell to the floor gasping, out of breathe. "What am I doing Wrong? Is there some technigue I need to know?" I asked hurtling the handle at the Mentor, and rushing in behind with two fast punches.

The trainer picks up his spear and deflects the handle. Then takes the first punch and knocks the second off target. He then swings the butt of the spear at the tribute's ribcage. "You need to be prepared to take blows, but dish out more"

I understood now, I locked my hands around the shaft of the spear as it came in contact with my ribs. I curled forwards, but in the last second snapped my shoulders back, jolting the spear forwards. I snapped a foot of Shaft off and held it like a knife, facing away from me, sharp part out.

the trainer re-grips the remainder of the spear like a bat, and quickly strikes at the tribute's neck with it, keeping his other arm ready to block.
