Aaron shut off the TV after watching for a few hours. He couldn't stand watching his sister slowly die for the government's entertainment. He kept seeing her over and over again in his head. Ashley was fighting for her life, and all Aaron could do was sit there and watch, hoping she'd make it out.

Aaron left his house quickly with all intents of helping his father on the farm, but he couldn't bring himself to go to go out to the fields. Instead, he wandered along the streets as old memories came to mind. It seemed like Ashley was just another old memory, but she had really only been gone for a few weeks.

Aaron was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't even know that there was someone else on the street until he bumped into them. He looked up and stumbled backwards muttering a quick apology as he did so.

Derald was out to do some errands for his uncle and was on his way back to the farm. It was a slow day but he'd rather be out here running errands than be sitting back home watching some depressing game. Derald rarely watches the games since it really wasn't something he'd watch, getting all depressed and things. But he'll always be rooting for the district 10 tributes.

He was making a mental list on what to do back at the farm in case his uncle ever drags him in on watching the games. He, on the other hand, love the watch the games, holding on to every hope for the tributes to survive each day. That at least means more work for Derald to not watch them. Derald yawned and bumped into someone else. "Sorry 'bout that," he smiled apologetically nodded towards the guy only to recognize him barely. Was he related to this year's tribute? Ashley if he remembered correctly. His uncle have been shouting at the television about how unfair it was for her.

Aaron shrugged. "It's all right. It wasn't your fault. I wasn't watching where I was going," he said. He faintly recognized the other boy; probably from school, as he looked to be about the same age as Aaron. Aaron started to walk away, not feeling like talking to anyone at the moment.

Derald suddenly got the feeling that he really was Ashley's brother and he decided to say something. "Hey," He said as the guy walked past him quickly, "I'm sorry 'bout your sister..." He looked really depressed and what he said wasn't helping much either. What else was he suppose to say? Get over it? No, cause this wasn't just a trivial crush or something. Derald wouldn't know what to do if Tess was reaped into the Games too.

Aaron stopped in his tracks and turned around. "Sorry about my sister, you say? Well, it's nice to know that someone cares. Most people just turn a blind eye to it all," he said.

Derald chuckled a little, "well, you should see how my uncle just shouts at the television for her, telling her to not die." He expected the guy to get defensive about it but he came out differently. Derald put a hand out and introduced himself, "I'm Derald." It must've been frustrating and horrible to watch his sister dying for the entertainment of the Capitol, "Wanna talk 'bout it?"

Aaron shook his hand, "I'm Aaron," he said, then added in response to Derald's question, "I'm not really sure i should talk about it. I'd probably end up saying something that would get me in trouble."

Derald smiled, "Yeah, that would've been bad." He remembered that Aaron was heading towards the fields and he asked, hoping to change the depressing subject, "So you work around the farms here?" He probably had walked past Aaron before without noticing if they both worked by the farms. Derald usually worked within the farm anyway so he hasn't exactly met the whole lot of people in the district.

Aaron nodded. "Yeah, my father owns a large herd and we're the only ones that are taking care of our cattle now. I've got the day off, but I can't stand to not be out there right now. It keeps my head on straight, ya' know?" he said.

Maya Summit - District 10 - Female - 16 Years Old

Maya was walking along, minding her own business, when she suddenly noticed that standing a few feet away from her were two boys. This normally wouldn't mean anything to her, but she knew one of the boys had a sibling in the Games. She could pretend that she was over Estrella's death, she could bite her lip whenever someone mentioned her name to keep from screaming, she could ignore the occasional look of pity, but it didn't mean anything. It wasn't something you forgot.

She almost ran from the spot right there, what with all the reminders of what happened to her best friend last year, but she knew it wouldn't be right. Maya clenched her fists and approached the two. "Erm... hi," she said, feeling slightly awkward. "I'm Maya. This will probably seem a little random, but I know that you," she paused to point to the boy she knew has a sister in the Games, "have a sister in the Games, and I wanted to say sorry. My best friend, Estrella Lennix, got reaped last year, and she died in the final two, so I kind of know how you feel... oh, and, um, hi to you too," she added, nodding to the blonde boy.

Derald smiled towards Maya, introducing himself a little, "Derald. Hi to you too." He hasn't got much say in this conversation so he'd keep quiet most of the time, he was blessed that Tess never got into the Games and he never had to suffer that pain. Would it be the same as when his parents were captured and thrown into the Capitol? No, the games were more morbid and painful to watch.

Aaron nodded in recognition of Maya's statement. He remembered the girl from last year and he knew it must have been hard for someone so close to Estrella at the time. "I'm Aaron," he said, introducing himself, "I'm sorry that you had to go through all that." What else was he supposed to say? There wasn't much you could say without offending someone.

Fleur had been walking by, her parents let her take a break from their family farm and just have time to herself. It was hard to watch the games more now than before considering that Brandon was hallucinating and it could be the cost of his very own death and it saddened Fleur, he might not make it and she didn't know how she could cope with that, she didn't know how long things would be like this or how long these games would last. The last games lasted a whole month and then some.

That's when she stumbled upon a group of three people, two guys and one girl. She knew the boy with dark hair, his sister was in the games with Brandon and the girl, her best friend died last games, her best friend made it to the final two and was so close to winning. The boy with the blonde hair she remembered him a bit from school but for awhile and a few years Fleur has been doing farm work and she no longer went to school. "Hello." She said and then gave a small smile. "I'm Fleur." She said to the three of them.

"Well, hello Derald, hello Aaron," Maya responded, smiling briefly, although there was no happiness in her eyes or the rest of her expression. She turned to Fleur. "Hi. Nice to meet you... er, I suppose you would know what it's like as well, huh?" Maya said quietly, feeling slightly awkward. She had seen this girl and the male tribute at the reaping. It wasn't easy knowing the tributes, but Maya realized Fleur probably felt worse. "I'm Maya."

Soon, another girl came by and he realised how long he hasn't been on the streets, out of the farm. She introduced herself as Fleur, then Derald remembered watching the parade where the male tribute for district 10, Brandon, wore a cow suit, giving a shout out to Fleur. She must've meant a lot to him. Derald pulled to a smile to Fleur, "I'm Derald, nice to meet you, and I'm sorry.. about.. y'know." Derald didn't want to mention about this unless they were willing to talk about it.

She was spoken to a bit and she gave them all a friendly smile as she nodded to them. "Nice to meet you Derald and you too Maya." She said keeping her smile on her face. She turned her attention to Derald, "No it's fine, we expected the worst anyway and one can only hope they'll come back, he's brave and if he can be in an even worse situation than I am..I have to be brave too." I say with a weak smile. I found it slightly easier to talk about it as the days went by I promised Brandon if things happened where he died..I'd try and be happy for him.

Maya nodded, but she was feeling even more awkward. It had dawned on her that there was only one winner. If Brandon won, Ashley would be... "Dead," she whispered to herself, a sense of dread infecting her calm demeanor. She hadn't meant to say the word aloud, and hardly realized she had. And vice versa. she thought, horrified. Oh, god, if it's in the final two... she froze, momentary panic cutting off her train of thought. Estrella. Maya couldn't stop the thoughts from racing into her head. "No..." she trailed off frantically, looking around. Suddenly, that corner wasn't just a corner, it was the corner she had passed on the way to the Reaping with Ella. The shop wasn't just a shop, it was the shop she had bought a stuffed lamb for Estrella when a newborn lamb didn't make it through birth. The air wasn't just the air, it was the air that Ella had breathed... that everyone breaths, she reminded herself, forcing the painful memories out of her brain and steeling herself. Maya squeezed her vivid amber eyes shut, then snapped them open again in horror. The blank fields of darkness in her head were blanketed in images and videos of Ella.

"This is going to sound weird, but somebody needs to slap me..." she mumbled, barely audible. "I think I'm having a panic attack." Maya didn't wait for anyone else, as her vision was blurring, and hit herself across the face. Her cheek stung, but life cleared up a little and Maya could even force herself to smile. "Sorry about that. Momentary relapse. Into or of what, I'm not sure, but I'm glad it's over. What were we talking about?"
