I sat down on the couch in one of the train cars, wondering what the future would hold for me. I was hoping for a good mentor, someone who would give me advice that would help.

As if on cue, a man, around sixteen, enters the car. He has jet black hair that is cut short and hangs over his eyebrows. He nods towards the boy sitting on the couch. "Are you..." he looks at his hand to see the writing, "Jacob Barker?"

i look up, this guy couldn't be that old? Still a teenager! Thats could mean trouble, or the advantage of having a mentor fresh out of his games. "Yeah, thats me" I say calmly, "your my mentor?" I ask.

He nods, grinning. "Nice to meet 'cha. The name's Tristan King. Victor of the Games two years ago." Tristan puts out his hand, the one without the writing.

I decide to be as friendly as possible and get up. I shake his hand, and start to remember his games, "What year was that? I forget the arena"

Tristan grins. "The 24th Games. It was a giant desert. I almost starved to death, but luckily, I found an oasis. Nice, y'know?" I stuff my hands in my pants pockets. "I striked up an alliance with everybody, so everybody killed each other. I was the only one left."

I grinned and felt reassurance, he was smart, he outsmarted the others by offering his other skills in an alliance, and they fought each other for him. "I remember that year now". I pause for a minute, "So, how can you help me?"

Tristan raises an eyebrow. "The question is, how can I NOT help you." He grins. "I need to know your skills."

I smile at the humor, "Well, Im good with axes and all that wood chopping stuff, I'm really fast, and I can sneak up on anyone in the district and sneak away again" I say, I remember something and add it in, "Im a good climber too!".

He nods. "Good. If there's anything involving trees, you'd have a huge advantage."

I pause, "Would axes come in handy in combat? Would they give any special advantage in the way they can be fought with?"

Tristan nods fiercely. "There was this kid last year. Corey Something-or-other. All he did was chop people's heads and limbs off. Got to, like, the Top Three. Then an arrow pierced his skull..." He shrugs. "But it's history. And you look like you'll make it. So, yeah, you can do that if you want."

I shrug, "I dont think I'd be flaunting my kills like that, If anything I'd just sneak up and give a deep cut in the back, then run like heck before anyone notices me" I say, preferring hit and run to going rambo. "Should I get any allies early on?"

He nods. "Strike up as many as possible. And hold it against them if they threaten you. Keep them from possibly killing you. Maybe you'll be like me." He shrugs. "You never know, y'know?" A smirk flashes across his face.

I laugh, "Because a short and small kid with a few axes looks like as great an ally as you did?" I ask. I think about the moment we hit the arena, "What about the cornucopia?"

"It was just a mirage the whole time. But it looked so real..." I space out for a few seconds, thinking about the Cornucopia.

I get confused, "What?" I ask, wondering what hes talking about, of course the cornucopia is real.

"The Cornucopia in my arena was a mirage. The Gamemakers pulled a huge prank on us and made the Cornucopia a huge mirage. It wasn't real. No marter how far you ran, the distance you traveled, it'd always be too far away."

I tried to imagine chasing after something like that, "So were there any supplies?" I asked, usually they were at the cornucopia.

"They were randomly placed around the desert. I managed to get half of them, but I have an epic sense of directions." Those games were harsh...but at least I survived.

I shudder at the thought, but realize we are getting off the topic at hand, "So ,what should I do with my cornucopia? Assuming its real"

"Get there as soon as possible and take as many as your arms can carry. Then hole out somewhere with someone you trust."
