The District 1 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 33rd Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. This is the year, Abel thought to himself. This is the year that I go into the games and win. Abel strode in with a confident air about him and standing right next to him was his twin sister, Anika. Both had dressed up in their Reaping Day best and nothing was going to stop him from proving himself. They checked in and parted ways as Anika was led to the section for the 17 year old girls and Abel was lead the the section for the 17 year old males. Abel straightened out his collar one last time before the escort walked up on stage and began to speak. It was the same old thing he had heard many many times before and the only thing that was ever different was the new style that the District 1 escort wore each year.

Once the video was over and the very quiet clapping came from the mayor of District 1 and the escort had all but subsided, the woman with the blinding white teeth announced she was going to pick the names. Abel's back straightened and he looked ahead as she reached for the bowl she said was the female names. He wasn't going to look around nervously or try to find a comforting face to make him feel better. Instead he kept his face forwards and awaited the news as if he was going to be told the best thing in the world. And who knows? Maybe he would.

Sagittaria had woken up late, luckily her mother was more eager then her, as Nala shook the teenager in her bed she sighed and finally got up. What the heck, might as well look nice. Sagittaria prepared herself half-way diligently and finally walked out, getting blinded by the over polished whiteness of her rich district. And may the odds be ever in my "oof!" Her thought was cut short by running children pushing her down. Maybe the odds weren't in her favor.

She finally arrived at the ever shiny pavilion and center of the district, getting even more blinded by the even whiter teeth of the announcer. She stood silently, thinking to herself about other things. A few prissy girls passed and scoffed by hair so she subtly performed a rude gesture behind their backs. Then they started. She waited, knowing how much tesserae that she bought, being aware the odds were not in her favor.

Then her name was called, even though she was dependent on the idea it may happen she lost her breath anyway "Come on up, Ma'am" She slowly stumbled up. Sagittaria was very good on being careful enough not to trip. She stood next to the announcer and watched as her male partner did the same and got up next to her. This was her life now, lived in true fear.
