The sound of soft, bare footsteps could be heard throughout the forest, as Octavia wandered around the trees and stumps. She was here to get away from the shouting of her dear home, as her older sister Carol riled up an argument with her mom. A small smile appeared onto her lips while she nonchalantly walked over a plethora of tree stumps. Her knee-length boots were left in the crook of a nearby tree, as Octavia was paranoid that someone would steal them.

Octavia was starting to get bored; there was literally no one here, or at least near her. Overridden by the horrible boredom, she walked quickly to the nearest tree, and out of impulse, jumped up to grab the lowest branches pulling herself up the trunk. A mere seconds later, Octavia was sitting on a sturdy limb of the tree, dangling her pale legs. She looked down at her feet. "Oh, wow," she murmured, surprised at the amount of mud and dirt that was clinging onto her feet. "Mom and Euphony are not going to be happy..."

It had been slow at the Parches' business for a few days now, as it always was in the early summertime. Thus, it was rather easy for Autumn to slip away into the forest after lunch.
The woods were quiet today; it was too warm for the normal chatter of squirrels and mockingjays. Some might've liked that, but did Autumn really want solitude on such a nice day? Well, it seems she'd find out, as there was a voice from above, too quiet to make out the exact words. Autumn looked up, eventually locating the source of the voice, a young girl up in the trees. The older girl smiled; it was a nice reminder that others liked to climb these trees. Within a moment, Autumn was ironically perched in the branches of a maple quite near the girl's tree.
Once she had taken a comfortable position, she called across to the girl, "Afternoon! Nice weather up here, isn't it?"

Octavia's head shot up straight from her dirty feet to face an older girl in a maple tree near the tree she sat in, also a maple tree. Her expression was a mixture of emotions along the lines of "throughly surprised." The brunette's mouth was agape, and her already large eyes could be described as one's of an owl's. Octavia did not expect this, and she almost swung her legs down too hard, which could've resulted in some painful injuries.

"Uh, y-yeah..." she hesitantly replied, fiddling with her key-filled bracelet. Her pale face was now a tomato-red, contrasting from the rest of her body. Octavia stared down onto her lap, completely flustered. Not wanting the situation to be more awkward than it already was, she introduced herself. "My name is Octavia Bellamy. Um, yours?"

Autumn held in a laugh at the girl's reaction. Of course she'd be surprised; she probably hadn't even known there was a person nearby. "Trick question. Weather's always nice up here," she said with a smile. Seeing that the girl was still a bit flustered, Autumn looked up at the sky. Wisps of clouds floated by at a turtle's pace.
When the girl spoke again, Autumn's gaze went back to her. "Octavia? Nice to meet ya," she said, "I'm called Autumn. Autumn Parch. You always spend your free time up here?"

As the crimson blush died down, a shy smile lit up Octavia's face. "Nice to meet you, Autumn," she said. Starting to swing her legs at a softer level, the thirteen-year old listened to the sounds around her. It was mostly leaves rustling about, a common sound in the forest.

"Actually not really," Octavia admitted. "My sister and brothers do, though. It's just that Carol decided to start a riot with my mom, and this is about the time the real shouting begins. I just came here so I could escape that. It's nice here, though." She laughed slightly before continuing. "I should come here more often, don't you think?"
