"Welcome, welcome!" The District Four escort chirped as the citizens gathered. She cast her bleached smile over the depressed crowd, waiting for them to settle before continuing on. "Today, one lucky man and one lucky woman shall have the honour of participating in the 38th Hunger Games!" she paused for a cheer, "Now then, Ladies first!" The escort's voice cut off as she broke from the microphone. Her hand dipped into the bowl of names and shuffled the papers.

She dug her hand into the bowl and pulled out the female tribute's name, "Seraphina Demeraire!" She called out and then she dug into the male's bowl. "and Ax Rails!" She invited them up and announced with glee, "Let us welcome our two tributes for the 38th Hunger Games!"

"...Ax Rails!" Ax froze. No. It couldn't be. The boy prayed he had heard the name wrong as the crowd of teenage boys parted, creating a path that led to the stage. Not this time. Not after Zeke. Not yet, not yet! Ax trembled, taking a shaky step forward. "I volunteer!" a voice said. Ax stopped again and absorbed the words. A boy. Volunteered. For him. It took him Ax all his willpower to not jump up and down as he quickly retreated back into the mob of boys. "Thank you, thank you, thank you," the boy thought gratefully.

"Seraphina Demeraire!" the escort announced cheerfully. Luna sighed a breath of relief. She had escaped the Reapings. The girl slipped her caterpillar out of her pocket and held it up to her nose. Flower was in a white shell. Luna assumed he was turning into a butterfly."Did you hear that, Flower?" she whispered. "I wasn't reaped." She held her hand up to her chest and glanced up at the sky. No more Reapings. No more threat of dying.
But something felt wrong. Luna had a strange feeling, and it wouldn't go away. The feeling.. that maybe she was supposed to be in the Games. That perhaps... It would be better for her to enter. Luna looked at the tiny shell in her hands. "It's my turn, isn't it?" she murmured softly, and the tiny cylinder shook in response. Luna took a deep breath. If she wanted to go in, she would have to speak in front of people. It's the only way. "I volunt-" the girl paused to clear her throat. "I volunteer as tribute."

The caterpillar broke away from its shell as Luna walked towards the stage. She stood quietly while the butterfly shook off its wings. "Goodbye, Flower," she said as Flower flew away with brilliant yellow wings.
