The District escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 27th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Flint signed in and went to his place on the guys side, sliding in with some work friends. He quietly waited for events to unfold.

.:With a snatch of a paper among thousands, the small envelope was pulled from the big glass bowl. With a deadly taught silence the escort returned to the microphone. A scratch of opening paper, and the escort cleared their voice

"Alexandra Owens" they called.

.:The silence deflated like a balloon. "Now for the boys." Repeating the same process the escort loudly said into the microphone

"Flint Terrn"

.:The two tributes had been chosen for slaughter, all that would be left would be to cart them off for their grand appearance in the Capitol. "Now then, are there any volunteers?" The escort asked as their two tributes joined them, on stage.

I grinned broadly and walked up to the stage, stepping up to the microphone, I waved and waited to shake my fellow tribute's hand, for show.

I gasped. Not that Punk kid! Alexandra or whatever. I scowled. I would survive way longer than her! At least I could laugh at her death...

I looked up. I wanted so badly to volenteer for Flint, but I knew he would kill me if I did. I sighed and mouthed, "Congrats Flint."

I looked with shock. What? It was me? I never thought it would be. What was I supposed to do? I wanted to go... but I'd die for sure. I knew it. And did I really want to die so young? This is what I was trained for... but is it really that important?

I looked at Cassandra. With tear filled eyes, I slowly approached the stage.

Out of nowhere a girl stepped out of the crowd and Volunteer, she steps to the stage confidently and grins, "Tessa Gull" is what she says is her name.

I stared at teh girl, then grinned evily. "Go kill `em tiger," I said as she passed by me.

I went back to my spot in the crowd. My family would hate me, but I didn't have a choice. It was either my dead, or alive. ANd if they wanted me dead, I'd certainly get the message.
