Reaping Day

The District 2 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 29th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

Rafe stood among the other guys his age. He looked over at the girls side, almost directly across from him was Astrid. He tried to catch her eye. To somehow assure her it would be okay. He thought about the possibilities, he wasn't likely to be picked, but if he did, he had to make sure he came home, he had to use the short time in the justice building to assure her it would all be okay, and then he had to go to the Capitol with her sister and hope they could pull a victory together. All for Astrid, in the end.

Luke signed in and walked to his spot. He didn't really pay attention to who was around him, knowing that they all wanted to get in the games, and if he was picked, someone would probably volunteer for him. He didn't have to wait long for the escort on stage to start. Out of nervousness, he looked over to his cousin, Saria, hoping she wouldn't get reaped, but he knew she could very well volunteer if she wanted to.

Astrid had stood among the girls her age, today was reaping day and with an event like this, Astoria always made Astrid wear a dress, and honestly Astrid hated it, it was out of her comfort zone. As their escort spoke Astrid looked across from her section and she found Rafe. He was already looking at her. Astrid gave him a small but weak smile. She didn't like how this could turn out. Rafe had a possibility of being reaped and going to the capitol with her sister and that's when she'd have to trust Astoria and she didn't like that thought sometimes. She didn't want Rafe to go in the games for a slight fear he might not come out. Then there was the possibility that Astrid would go in and she didn't like that at all, Rafe had a better chance at winning than her and if she went in she wasn't likely to come out. Lastly there was the option they could both end up in the games, that's the most hated option because then it'd mean only one of them could come home and on of them dying wasn't an option she liked.

Astrid looked over at him, he could see the worry on her face. Rafe wasn't sure what exactly he could do to reassure her, he himself was a bit nervous. He decided to give her a slow nod. Hopefully that would do the trick and calm her nerves. Until the names were called, that was about the best he could do for her.

Maurice happily walked over to the justice building. he wasn't planning on volunteering if he was reaped. he would just be happy if he was reaped though. he looked around and saw Lenina and gave her a small nod of acknowledgment. he watched as the girls name was drawn.

Aragorn is standing with the guys at the reapings that cut into his training time.
he wanted to be reaped but if he isnt he will be volenteer for this District.

Rafe heard Lenina's name called and smirked, she would like that. Then he heard his name, he shook his head. This was one of the worst things that could happen. He stepped out of the group of guys and made his way to the stage, stepping up onto the platform, he shook Lenina's hand and forced a smile. He wasn't scared, he wasn't worried about himself. He was worried about Astrid.

Lenina walked solemnly to the Reaping area. She was dressed in a simple black dress, her hair neatly put behind her ears and a pair of bracelets that her mother decided would be a nice touch to her outfit. They took her blood just like they had 6 years before this, and herded her to the area for the 18 year old girls. She stood there, knowing full well that no matter what she was going to go into the games this year. If she wasn't picked than she would be volunteering. This was the very last year that she would be eligible for the Reapings and she needed to make sure she was the one picked.

Lenina looked across from her and saw Maurice. He smiled towards her and she gave him a small nod in response. She waited for the escort to put her hand in the large bowl of names and watched as the woman's long, thin fingers entered in and pulled out the female name. "Lenina Cross" Lenina smiled, she wouldn't even need to volunteer. Len walked out into the aisle and walked confidently to the stage. She stood in the center, and heard the next name called. It was Rafe Terrn. He made his way and held out his hand for her to shake. She firmly shook it, "Let the best tribute win." This would be a good year indeed.

Astrid continued to look at Rafe for the amount of time it took for the escort to pull out a name and call out the female name. Astrid was safe and she got a small moment of happiness and then she waited for the male tributes name to be called, it seemed to take forever and like it'd never end, why wouldn't it? Why couldn't they just call a random boy's name and then they could be done and Astrid and Rafe could just go celebrate for not being reaped but as the escort had the name pulled out and as she read it she heard the name she hadn't wanted to here. Astrid was completely still and distant from everyone. After awhile without her doing or thinking she pushing through the girls and trying to run up to the stage. "Rafe!" She screamed but soon enough the peacekeepers had come up and grabbed her from behind and took her to the back of the reaping area. After she calmed down they let her go but stood near her in case she did anything again, for the moment she restrained herself, she'd get to talk to him before he left, she knew it and she had to just keep telling herself that.

(JJ you can't volunteer in district 2, Gaz got reaped and he already decided he wanted to go in. Sorry but that's just how it is.)
