Reaping Day!

"Welcome welcome, to the annual thirty-second hunger games!" a voice boomed over the pa into the crowd. "We select a couragous young man, and woman from each district to play in the hunger games!" She said peppy like and then showed a video about the history and background of the games. "Now, ladies first.." She put her hand into the glass bowl and pulled out a name.
"Stella Archer"
Then she went over to the men's bowl and put her hand in and dug out a name.
"Aiden Jacobs"
"Stella Archer and Aiden Jacobs are your tributes for the thirty second hunger games!"

Stella's palms were sweaty. She stood in a crowd of girls in the reaping. She was wearing one of her mother's old dresses; a sandy color, loose at the top, tight around the waist, and then it fell down in ruffles to her knees. Stella figured the dress had once been beautiful, but over the years it acquired multi-colored patches. She rubbed her palms on the hem of her dress and closed her eyes. Just calm down. The chances of you being picked are slim. And if you do get picked, then you'd get away from... mom... And if you win? She couldn't blame you for being poor. Stella told herself. She felt her heartbeat steady, but almost missed her name being called. When she opened her blue eyes, she felt hundreds of eyes on hers. Taking wobbly steps, Stella slowly made it to the stage as people made a path for her. She stood silently on her spot on the stage.
