A little problem Empty
PostSubject: A little problem   A little problem Icon_minitimeTue Jun 12, 2012 8:34 pm

First, let me start off by saying that I have wanted to say this for a while, but didn’t for fear that my account would be deleted and my friends would suffer. I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings or accuse anyone of trying to do anything mean. I know that the gamemakers are really great people and that they are chosen with lots of consideration. I just want to make the forum a better place for everyone. I did not type this as a way to get back at anyone for my character dying. I only did this for the good of the forum. This will not bring Fritz back and I don’t want anyone to believe that this is my goal. I only want to bring up an issue that has bothered me and my friends for awhile. I myself dislike conspiracy theories. All I want to do is show you my point of view.

The problem I’d like to discuss:
I feel that the gamemakers are, to be rather frank, sort of biased. They move the games in their favor, sometimes even unintentionally. Irregardless of their intent, their characters have a tendency to win more fights, get higher training scores, and generally live longer. I do realize that some “bad” things do happen to them but it would seem that on a general standpoint, the games weigh in their favor.
Some may say, “Well Captain Hook, they give better and longer posts it only seems fair that they should be rewarded.”
While sometimes that is true, some members who type incredibly long paragraphs still are killed off by the gamemakers. Luca Donners is a prime example. Hannibal almost always wrote a good sized paragraph, yet the gamemakers forced the thoughts of the tributes to want to kill him. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that called God-Modding?
I could go on, and would if I had more time, but please consider what I’m saying with an open mind.
I feel that a good temporary or possibly permanent solution is to have a rule saying that the gamemakers can not have a tribute. It makes things complicated and biased.
In conclusion, I feel that the gamemakers with a tribute in the games can be biased and that an excellent temporary or perhaps permanent answer is to have a regulation saying that the gamemakers should not be able to have a tribute.

Please comment on your thoughts, positive and negative. Please no spam or just “That is stupid and wrong” If you choose to write a comment, please give it some thought.

Thank you for your time.

With all due respect,
Captain Hook

My idea: if a gm has a tribute in the games he/she cannot mess with the affairs of that tribute. This idea was just the first thing I thought up.

Just saying, the head Gamemaker doesn't have a tribute, Sno just happened to go inactive part way through and we had to take over.

Apologies if we are biased, but in our defense it is hard to be biased when the dice are complete chance. Also, our job description as Gamemakers is to get tributes to kill other tributes.

@ Jerome we did this for the majority of the games, I did GM posts where Sor's tribute was, and she did where mine was.

Don't be afraid to say stuff, we don't rage and ban members for having opinions Smile

Well first of all, we wouldn't delete your account for saying that Captain.

Secondly, the training scores? Are you kidding me? Gaz had like a 4 or 3 and I had a 6.. Sno wasn't even in the games he was the original gm.

Now your solution is kind of stupid I'm not saying this to get a fight or anything but honestly this issue isn't much of an issue Captain considering Gaz and I didn't even intend on being the gamemaster of the games, we only intended to step in if Sno was busy but the point was Sno just got so incredibly busy that he could no longer carry on the duty of being the game master so it came to situation where Gaz and I had to take over and we were the game master in areas where we wouldn't be our own GM. Do you know how many times we had threatened each other with the power of gming the other? Many.

Another thing is we were not biased at all as for the die is a roll of luck and I am full aware of that, me..I have a perk in healing and all I get most times is +10 while others get +20 or something. I typed out long paragraphs myself. The thing is Gaz never really followed the rules hell Sno didn't even follow the length post thing that much but then again hardly anyone would use that to their advantage like I know when I typed long posts describing that I wanted to find a hiding place I got a hiding place.

The next games Gaz is the gm and he is NOT in the games that is simple. You shouldn't ban all admins from being the games, how is that fair? Not at all. We never played things out to be in our favor not at all. Not to mention some characters died due to inactivity and we wanted to continue the games.

One last thing I'd like to mention about the whole getting the others to think they wanted to kill Luca.. Well technically that's not god-modding in this type of situation. In the games rping wise the gm could have made it so something could have happened where they did make the fellow tributes believe they had to kill him.. Really their are sensible answers and basically that is why I don't see this as a big issue.

I was not talking about the dice, I was more talking about who you attacked and such.

Thank you all for your fascinating and insightful opinons. I am glad to see your point of view.

I think Captain's point has some merit, although I don't completely agree with it. As Sori (I think) said, nobody would delete your account or anything. It's good to hear opinions. The games started off more fairly, but it is true as time went on most people began to get impatient and needed GM posts to continue, so sometimes a GM whose charrie was there would step in if needed. However, this didn't seem to make much of a difference. I suppose it does now, though, since all 3 remaining tributes are staff. (No offense! ^^) There have been many 'No Change' GM posts lately, though, by Gaz, because everybody wants the final three played out fairly. Some people probably also want them to hurry up. Razz I say probably a lot, huh?

Anyway-

I think next time we just need to improve the GM's-not-GMing-for-their-own-tribute factor, and the next Games should be slightly more organized, now that everybody knows what they're doing. But there is nothing without bias. People have friends on the site, and even if their tribute would probably dislike each-other in real life, in the Games they might be allies based on the players. Sometimes, Game-makers might like or dislike some users, and it probably affects their GMing at some points in time, but I haven't noticed it being too much of a problem. I believe this is largely because there are multiple Game-makers. EX: Bob and Joe have tributes in the Games. Gaz favors Bob, while Sori favors Joe, and Sno wants to kill them both. It would even out.

Regardless, what Sori said about the GM's threatening each other actually helps the Games stay fair, in my opinion. They are two people of equal power. You'll notice RC isn't a GM, and Hunter's in the final three. I'm not trying to say what you're saying is completely wrong, because chances are, it's not. I'm just saying it's a little less extreme, and should be easy to deal with. Smile

Solving the GM favoritism is easy.

We're only meant to have one main GM and the other two with tributes filling in if members are impatient.

For example, the 28th Games will have me as Main GM, and I will not have a character in the games. I, as you all know, have intense loathing for all tributes, and will kill you all equally well. As my job says I am to do.

Also I took all bias off of GMing while being Flint as I planned to have him die from the start. I wanted to give the rest of you a chance since I was in(and won) the last games, but I still wanted Flint to be BA. Sadly, he was too BA for his own death.

Another thing is people will be impatient these next games but we have actually worked out some things in our meetings on posting and such and we have new rules for applying to be in the games and new rules when reading the how-to's because really the how-to's explain how the whole games works and sometimes there's rules in there that must not be ignored.

Anyway, I am off to go post in the games :3
