Clear Water

Jett usually didn't like school, or anything that reminded her of it. Now, however, she didn't mind it. The tribute knew she would have to pay attention to what these people were saying, so she would know what the heck she was doing. The woman up front was talking about purifying water and how to find edible plants. Jennifer understood the water parts, and some of the plants. She never really excelled in school, but she was sure that she would be fine.

As the lady up front went over all of the plants, Jett would make mental notes of them all. For example, she saw nightlock and the lady told them it was poisonous. Easy, dark berries means don't eat it.

Aurora knew a lot about edible plants, animals and purifying water. She had learned for a young age if you’re in the woods working and you run out of water you have to get water from a stream or river somewhere and if you don’t purify it you can get very sick. She also had figured out edible plants from the days if she forgot her lunch, she would sometimes get a wild animal if it wondered into her working zone. The Peacekeepers can’t complain if it is obstructing work.

She didn’t really play much notice to the other girl in the station with her. She had no reason to. She just wanted to get as much information as possible so she has a chance of getting home to her family. She just couldn’t leave them like this but she knew it may be out of her hands now. All she could do is learn as much as possible, try her hardest and hope for the best. That’s when it hit her; maybe she could get friendly with this girl, who knows what she can do.

“Hi, I’m Aurora. The District 7 girl tribute,” she said with the most innocent small she could pull off. She knew her best defence is her age, if she acted her age though she typically doesn’t she would be able to pull more off.

Lori took away from the healing station only that Aloe Vera is good for burns and that she really is bad when it came to identifying plants. "Hopefully it is just healing plants I am bad at identifying," she thought in her head as she reached the Edible Plants station. She saw two girls who looked younger than her already there, but didn't say a word to them. Instead she just gave a quick nod in their general direction and she was off to learn.

Lori was surprised that she wasn't half as bad with the edible plant identification as she was with the healing plant identification. "That's because someone was distracted..." the smooth voice chimed in, to which she immediately responded with "Shut up!" Lori could still feel her face get flush though, and all she could do was hope no one noticed. She learned a few more things that would be useful, what berries were good to eat and which ones she should stay away from. She learned about a few types of roots that would make a good starchy meal and where you could dig them up. Maybe it was growing up in District 12 her whole life that she knew some of the things that Gunnar would bring home to help feed their starving family.

Once Lori named some more of the edible plants successfully and she felt that she had a pretty good grasp on what they were she went on to water purification. She learned a few tricks, find running water and purify everything because you never know what is going to happen. She remembered 2 years ago the water source was drugged and two of the tributes were incapacitated. She kept track of how many drops of iodine she needed to use and even learned how to filter with sand and rocks. Learning from days in the woods she knew that water was her best friend, and without it she would not be able to survive for long. She went over the purifying steps a few times more than decided to move on.
