DISTRICT EIGHT

38TH GAMES

l a c e y   d e b e l l a
Lacey said goodbye plainly to her parents and a little amount of friends before boarding the Capitol's train. She walked slowly inside, taking in the view of the main cabin. There were small trays of different foods and drinks, most that she hadn't seen before. The glamour of the Capitol was all too new to her, coming from the lower part of a middle-class district. She pulled down her hair from it's up-styled position and slid the hair tie onto her wrist. She looked over the foodstuffs around her, but decided not to pig out now. She'd have a few days to do that before the Games, anyway.

"Hello?" Lacey called through the train car's door, wondering where anyone was. Sure, there had to be someone around in order for the Train to begin moving. The overily-perky escort didn't seem too appealing to the girl, so she hoped she would not walk in. She found an empty chair, so she sat in it, flattening out her tank-top/short dress, and brushed off her black skinny jeans. She looked at her reflection in the Train's multi-pane window and fixed her hair's appearance. Lacey crossed her leg over the other and sat in her chair, playing with a beaded necklace she wore to the Reapings.

Yes, the tribute was a bit on-edge now that she was being sent into a death trap, though she felt kind of excited, in a way. Perhaps a way that would show her the life of the Capitol for at least a while and the better life before she could meet her death. Her head tilted down and her eyes trailed down to her hands resting on her lap. Her hungry stomach rumbled a tiny bit, and the girl thought she didn't want to embarass herself with the sounds coming from her intestine, so she simpily stood up and looked  around the cart at the different foods around her. She picked up a small, bite-sized muffin which smelled of something familiar. She unwrapped one section and took a small bit out of it. Lacey recognized the taste as chocolate, a sweet that she was rarely able to taste back home. She shrugged, finished it after a while, and threw out the wrapper. The tribute sat back down in her chair and rested her head on her hand, with her elbow rested on the armrest, waiting for someone to arrive.

Ross Bonnett

Ross' family has always been the type to smother and love him too much, so of course this hurt them bad. Ross' mothers, his sister and grandmother had to be dragged out of the room, crying and screaming his name. He can only pray that they are safe. Without them he'd die.

"Die, die, stop thinking about that word. Just shut up and think about the good things, like all the food the Capitol has, or the chance that you could win and give some money to the moms for the bakery." He thought while walking into the train, going straight to the bedrooms. He wanted to sleep, he wanted the comfort, but he couldn't sleep without the thought of death reappearing. After a while he stopped trying to sleep and started to cry, which ended with him finally dozing off for a while.

He woke up a few minutes later from anxiety and nightmares. The somber and drowsy boy moved around the train trying to find the dining room, when finding it finding his district partner as well.

"Hello, I'm Ross, who are you?." He asked, the manners his grandmother forced onto him showing.  He went to sit near her, hoping she's not the the type to like her personal space too much.

Maybe he could form an alliance with her? Shoot, just having somebody around for now would be good enough to him. He's not the type to go through hard situations alone anyway.

Profile
Rowan Quistan
District Eight Mentor
Rowan made his way to the dining cart. The familiar walk was always repetitive, and Rowan thought that a track would've already been worn into the carpet by now. Sliding the door open, he entered the cart and looked for his tributes. Finding them, Rowan clapped his hands together and strutted into the room. "Rowan Quistan, kiddies!" he exclaimed, a smile plastered on his face. "And you must be Lacey DeBella," he said, indicating the girl, "And Ross Bonnett," indicating the boy. Chuckling, he made his way over to the tables. Pouring a glass of red wine, Rowan took a sip and turned to the tributes. "I'm your lifeline for the upcoming weeks, until that inevitable outcome," he said, pausing. Sighing, the smile left his face for a brief moment before returning. Setting his glass on the table in front of his couch, Rowan plopped onto the couch. "Two choices before we begin: Questions for me or icebreakers," he said with a grin, "Either works for me." He took another sip of wine, propping his feet up on the couch.

Lacey turned from her chair and she saw a boy around her age, so she assumed it was her partner. He introduced himself as Ross. Ross. The name sounded unfamiliar to her, as she'd never heard that name back home. She remained in her chair and slightly raised one of her eyebrows at the boy.

"You were at the Reapings, weren't you? You should know my name by now," the girl said, a bit offended by Ross asking of her name. Yes, she was one of those people, who get offended if they aren't known by every single person known to man. She stood up, sighing, and walked over to the beverage cart. She looked over the table, searching for something that did not contain alcohol (at least not this early), which was a bit difficult since it was the Capitol, after all. She shook her head before just getting herself a cup of water. She took a sip of it before turning to Ross, cradling the cup in her fingers.

"You can just call me Lacey," the tribute said, avoiding eye contact with him. She took another sip of water before she heard the train car's door open. A man appeared, she met eyes with him for a second, and guessed he was her mentor. He introduced himself as Rowan Quistan, which made Lacey think about whether his name sounded familiar. She studied the victor for a moment with slightly narrowed eyes.

"Quistan... Like that one tribute a few Games back?" the girl hesitated for a breif moment. "Oh, what was his name... Oh well." She decided to put the thought off for now. Lacey took a sip of her water and nodded once Rowan addressed her correctly. She leaned against a wall of the train car, listening to the victor speak. Whenever they met eye contact, though, Lacey's eyes would change to the interestingly-woven rug. The girl looked up back at her mentor when he asked for questions or 'icebreakers'. She shrugged in response, "Um, I have a question.. Does my hair look okay?"

Ross almost couldn't help rolling his eyes at her statement. His whole world blacked out when he was reaped and nothing but worry and death was in his mind. How would anyone be that conceited. He could only could bite his tounge before he said anything sarcastic, repeating in his head the word "Manners." over and over again.

His went to sit closer to the Dining Cart's television, watching the other reapings and trying to see who was going to be worse to deal with then others until the mentor came in. He sighe with relief that the man wasn't a drunkard or a drug attic, which is quite common with victors.

He didn't have any questions, wishing to learn more in the Capitol, and rolled his eyes at the television screen at Lacey's question about her hair, she was definently the concieted type. Maybe he should try  to ally with another tribute? He wasn't bad at making friends, anyway, it can't be that hard to find an ally who isn't from your own district.

He sighed and left to go back to his room, he needed some real sleep anyway.
