A Walk To Remember

It's all over for this year I guess. But is it really? I hang up my coat in my house as my mom, Jenna, and I walk in. I slowly walk to my bedroom, and close the door behind me. I plop down and my bed and just lay staring at the ceiling. I wonder what the two district 5 tributes are doing right now. Saying their goodbyes, probably. The last words they'll probably say to the ones they love. I sigh. They'll be dead soon, you won't have to worry about them. "You're fricking sick." I say to The voice. Oh please, you know it's true. And the most terrible part of it, is that I do.

I open the door and step outside. Then I close the door behind me and linger for a moment for some reason. Then I begin walking towards the Victor's Village, sometimes I just need to see Rhea. She makes me feel comfortable. As I pass areas in the districts, I pass a burnt down home. My feet tell me to rush by it, but I just stay standing still. This house... So many years ago. I picture myself as a child, sitting outside in the mud playing with a stick. Or my dad beating me with a steel can on the porch. I picture all the memories, from the hurt to the smiles. It's all... Remember back then? There was no voice, must've been great. "Yeah, it really was." I say sarcastically, not taking my eyes off the house. Finally I run off, not looking back at the house.

Once I get to the Victor's Village, I pass all the empty houses to get to Rhea's. It's kinda depressing how vacant it is, it must be lonely living here. Once I get to Rhea's house I softly knock on the door, not wanting to disturb much but get their attention. A few seconds later I see the door swing open and Rhea in the doorway. "Hey." She looks upset, so I pull her into a comfy hug.

Rhea had gotten home with her brother safely at her side. It was a relief to know now that he was safe from the Capitol, from their games and from their grasp. But now she felt the heavy weight of owing someone, the boy Abram had given her a debt that she could only repay with making sure he won. But there was no guarantees in the arena and no matter how hard she tried she couldn't control what happened in there. Being in the Capitol watching what would end up being the last days for 23 of the tributes was hard enough without the memories that being there flooded her consciousness. The Reapings only brought this stuff up, brought everything to the front and making the pain known as it rushed through her body. This was what the Reapings did to Rhea, it made everything new once more, every emotion was raw and it was like every wound was made brand new.

A light rap at the door came and Rhea could feel her heart sink. Were they here to take Roe? Was there some mistake and now he was the one going in? She cautiously opened that door to see no peacekeepers but Chase standing there. She didn't know why she felt so anxious about it, but until that train left with just her on it Roe would not be safe for good. The peacekeepers could come at anytime and take him away back to the Justice Building, and no matter how unfair it would be she wouldn't be able to stop them. But this was just crazy, her paranoia was taking over now. Rhea knew the look that was probably on her face and it was confirmed when Chase hugged her. She hugged him back letting her arms fall around his neck and hang there loosely. She buried her head into the sloped area between his neck and shoulders, and whispered "I hate the Reapings." She pulled away and looked into his eyes. "Especially while you and Roe and everyone is still eligible. I can't lose him...I just can't. He is all I have left. And you..." She turned away as she went down the steps onto the front yard area of her house. You sound like an idiot, just put your foot in your mouth why don't you? She walked away from the house, wandering around aimlessly now unsure of what exactly she was doing.

When Rhea hugs me back, I smile. She's always so comforting and.. I trail off. "I hate the games too. It's sick." I pull Rhea in real close an whisper in her ear. "We only have one more year, and then we're safe forever." I give Rhea a soft kiss on the cheek and pull back. She starts wandering, so I walk next to her. "I was going to volunteer for Roe. I couldn't bear to see him go, I should be going to the Capitol. Not that other guy."I sigh. "It feels like the world is plotting against us doesn't it? Most people don't know anybody who gets reaped, but we know everybody."

Rhea walked slowly next to Chase and as they walked she reached out and grabbed his hand. The walked like this for a few moments before Chase began to speak and as he talked about wanting to volunteer for Roe her heart sank. She turned to him and shook her head slightly. "Don't say that!" She could feel the words coming out much louder than she had intended them to, almost shouting at him for even suggesting such a thing. She loved her brother, but the thought of Chase going in instead of him sent her over the edge. "Don't ever say that, Chase. If I ever lost you...like I lost...Kaspar." Her eyes darted around as the tears began to accumulate at the edges of her eyes. She looked down trying to avert her gaze away from Chase. Even though he had seen her cry before it didn't matter, she hated to cry in front of him. She needed to be strong and crying made her look weak.

"I'm sorry." I say an run a hand through my hair. I has thought about volunteering for Roe, and probably wouldn't done it if the other guy hadn't. I couldn't let him go in for multiple reasons. I had met Roe a few times, he seems so great. It'd be a shame if he died. And Rhea... It would kill her. I just couldn't let that happen. Plus I had to avenge Henry. But maybe fate was trying to tell me something by the other guy volunteering, that fate doesn't want me to die quite yet. "I just couldn't let Roe go in, I know it would hurt you so bad. I'd do anything to spare your feelings. Plus Roe is a great guy, he can't die so early." Although would me dying really be any better? Making your lady cry, what a gentleman. I try to ignore the voice in my head. Why don't you just call her a bitch, that'll make her real happy. 'She isn't a bitch, that's what you are.' I say back to the voice in my head. Getting immature are we? I do my best to ignore it. "Don't cry.. Please." I delicately wipe the tears from Rhea's face. "I am still here, and so is Roe. We are safe." I say softly. But are we really? No. We are only safe for now. "You won't lose me like you lost Kasper. I will always be here." I wipe the hair out of Rhea's face. "I love you, and don't forget it."

Rhea felt the tears being delicately wiped from her face and she looked up at Chase. He had a way of making her feel better and comfortable when she felt like the world was crashing down around her. "I love you too, Chase. More than even myself sometimes. I just...I can't lose you." She brushed away a loose piece of hair that was hanging down near his eyes and put her arms around his neck. She pulled herself in placing a kiss against his lips then stood there, content on just sitting in his arms for the time being.

"Always love yourself, Rhea. You are amazing." Of course when Rhea kissed me, I kiss her back. Even after she lingers in my arms, not that I mind it though. "We only have one more year Rhea, then we can be together." I say with a smile. "It's gonna be great." Then when you're both old and elderly, you can get a pet and name it Chea. I laugh at the voice. 'Great idea.'[/i] I say back to it. [b]"Come on, let's go for a walk. I wanna spend some time with you before you're shipped off to the Capitol." I stand up. "Oh hello lovies." I say mockingly in my best Capitol accent with a laugh.

Rhea stood up and laughed at Chase's Capitol voice. "Ugh don't remind me that I have to leave so soon." She struck up a pose and put on her 'Capitol' charm. "Oh darlings, I think these will be a very exciting games indeed! I just adore that outfit you are wearing! Where ever did you get it?" Rhea did her best to try and impersonate the same voice the escort used whenever she spoke on the large stage they erected during the Reapings in the town square. She was sure it sounded terrible, but it didn't matter; she was having a fun time either way. "I wish I didn't have to leave, I just want to stay here. So...what do you want to do before I am swept away to the Capitol?" She tilted her head to the side waiting for a response to her question.
