It was very late at night, when I was sure that no one was working. I did this almost every night. I've never been caught.

I grabbed my journal without a sound, and slipped out the door. The air was warm and humid. Just the way I liked it.

I jumped off the rickety old porch, and took a silent run to my usuall spot. It was a big apple tree, in the middle of many, many others. I was concealed, and well hidden. If I was quiet.

In a short time, I found it. I slid on the grass, right to the trunk of the tree. It was my favorite because it was the biggest, and oldest apple tree. Its huge roots spread through the underground, but some near the trunk poked up. I stroked the nearest root. It was rough, like all trees were. But it had a sort of wisdom I had to admire.

I took out my journal, and took out my precious pen. I looked at my previous songs.

Out there / somewhere / they miss my voice...

That one was about my old friends in the Capitol.

I sighed. I missed my friends, but I'd rather be here. Here with my old apple tree. I started whistling a tune, and a stray mockingjay picked it up. No! I shouted in my mind. I could get caught if it sings too loudly. But it was a small one, not very good lungs for singing yet. I couldn't slip up like that though. It was dangerous out here.

Dove was running in the orchard at night. Her sister, Jasmine, was missing. She had slipped out of bed while Dove was sleeping, and had run out of the house. If any of the Peacekeepers find Jasmine before Dove does, then they will automatically take her. Dove hated the Peacekeepers, but she couldn't tell her that. They'd turn he into an Avox without even thinking.

"Jasmine!!" Dove hissed. Then, she heard a Mockingjay whistle a tune. Dove had heard the tune before, and wasn't sure if it was her sister or not. There was no way that Dove could tell where the tune originated, it was hard to tell with Mockingjay's. "Jasmine, you had better get out here right now!" Dove yelled/ whisperd. She didn't want the Peacekeepers to find out that she was out here, but she also didn't want to leave Jasmine out here by herself, either.

I heard a voice.

My body tensed, and I sat very still, holding my breath.

I listened closer, until I heard it wasn't a Peacekeeper. I let a sigh of relief escape my lips. I still got up slowly, and took my journal tightly in my hands, holding it to my chest.

"Hello?" I whipered in the direction of the voice.

"It'd be nice if the world was peaceful, to bad that it's not."

Dove almost died from a heart attack. She heard someone talk from a large apple tree to my left. It wasn't Jasmine's voice, it was older than a little girl. "Whose there?" Dove whisperd, looking up at the tree. "Have you seen a little girl with black hair, about yay tall?" Dove guessed that the person up in the tree wasn't a Peacekeeper, what would they be doing up in an apple tree? Besides, she needed to find her sister.

I jumped down from the tree to see the girl better. She was older than me, and she had long brown hair. She looked worried, and she was looking for a girl.

I cocked my head and her, and whispered, "No. Sorry. Who are you looking for? Maybe I could help?"

Dove was startled as a young girl jumped down from a tree. She looked...diffrent. She had blonde hair and pail skin. This girl was obviously not from around here.
"I'm looking for my little sister, Jasmine. She's got black hair and brown eyes with tan skin, like mine. She's about...this tall, and is wearing pajama's." Dove was looking around, in some sort of hope that her sister would simply jump out from behind a tree and yell 'suprise!' but it didn't happen.

I shrugged, and looked around slowly. "No, I haven't seen her. Do you know the direction she went in? That could give us a good lead," I say quickly and quietly. I loved it out here, it was peaceful, and pristine. But now there was a mission. I didn't mind it at all, it was just... strange.

"It'd be nice if the world was peaceful, to bad that it's not."

Dove shook her head. "No, I don't know where she ran. I woke up about fifteen minutes ago, and my sister wasn't with us. She loves it here in the orchard, she loves the way it smells and everything, so I figured she had run in here."
Dove began fidling with her fingers. She had to find her sister, she didn't know what would happen if she didn't find her.

I chewed on my bottom lip nervously. I knew exactly what she meant.

"Ok," I started, whispering franticly. "Did she have a favorite spot somewhere? Somewhere she would always talk about?"

"It'd be nice if the world was peaceful, to bad that it's not."

Dove thought for a minute. "Yea, she said that there was this really nice out-of-the-way place. She said it was near the...peach tree's? She told me she liked it there because it smelled nice. But I don't work in the Orchard, I work in the feilds, so I don't know where that is."
Hopefully this girl knew her way around the orchard and could help Dove find her sister.

I smiled at the girl. She was extremely lucky. Well, not considering that her sister was missing.

"I know where that is," I said. "I work in the orchards. Follow me."

I ran through the trees swiftly, always hiding behind one once in a while. Whenever I ran heer alone, I felt like a deer. Graceful, beautiful, mysterious.

But I wasn't alone.

"It'd be nice if the world was peaceful, to bad that it's not."

Dove had a hard time following the girl. She ran through the tree's fast, occasionally hiding behind the tree. As soon as Dove caught up to her, than the girl would run off again.
Finally, they had gotten to the Peach Tree's. She saw Jasmine sitting at the base of a peach tree, reading. She hadn't yet looked up. "Jasmine Ivy Jones, what in the world are you doing?! You had us all worried!" Then, her sister looked up. Dove couldn't stay mad at a girl like her. She went over and gave her sister a hug. "Don't you dare do that to me again! Do you understand?" Jasmine gave a nod.

It was so cute and touching. The two sisters reunited.

Then I heard something. "Freeze!" I whispered to the two girls fiercely.

I waited, until my little sister, Poppy stepped out. She ran, crying into my arms. "I'm sorry Fern! I couldn't sleep, and I saw you go out, and I got scared. Then I couldn't find you, and I just found you, and I thought Peacekeepers were coming and-"

She had been talking so fast inbetween sobs. I stroked her long blonde hair. I had cut her off, saying, "Shh, it's ok. It's ok."

"It'd be nice if the world was peaceful, to bad that it's not."

Dove and Jasmine froze, living in fear that one day the Peacekeepers were going to get them and turn them into Avox's, or kill them. Then, a small girl came out, and Dove realized that it was the girls younger sister. She smiled, understanding. Dove stood up, and took Jasmine's hand. "Thanks for helping me find my sister. I'm Dove by the way, what's your name?" Dove asked.

I smiled brightly. "Fern. And this is Poppy," I said. I gestured to Poppy, but she was hiding behind me. She was afraid of everything.
