District 10 Reapings!

Subject: District 10 Reapings! Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:02 pm

The District 10 escort steps up on stage and smiles with blindingly white teeth. She starts speaking in a high pitched voice, "Welcome everyone to the Reapings! Today one young man and woman will be chosen to participate in the 28th Annual Hunger Games!" She steps up to the big bowls containing the names of every child in the district, from 12 to 18. Her hands hover above the bowls for a second, as if deciding something. "Now then, Ladies first!" she says, and reaches into the bowl filled with girls names...

I gulped. The day had come. The Reapings were here. I hoped dearly that my name wasn't about to come out of that bowl. I was only 16. There was no way I would be able to survive in the arena. I shook my head. The odds were in my favor. There were tons of girl in District I had never gotten the tesserae before. I took a deep breath and waited for the escort to speak again.

Brandon Tim

I walked nervously with my parents. Today I could be sent off to te Capitol, or at home. Today could be the day I could be sent to my death. Today could be the day I lose Fleur. But I think if I got reaped I might be able to stay alive. Might. I scan te crowd of girls to look for Fleur and Aurie. I find them and give them both I nod. Then after checking in I go to my place and wait. The announcer starts talking and I wait.

I had managed to walk into the area where we went every year for the reapings. This year it seemed darker, to me this place was horrid. We almost had a victor last year, we were so close yet so far and now district four had a new victor and we lost a chance to have one. Estrella almost won, she had been one of my cousins but I hadn't been too terribly close with her considering that side of the family was poor and such. This year I didn't know how things would be planned. I walked in and found my area where I could stand with Aurie. "Hey." I said quietly. Then as Brandon walked in I looked at him and he gave both me and Aurie a nod. What if I lost him this year? Or what if I was reaped this year? It was possible, what if both Aurie and Brandon were reaped? What would I do? I'd lose my two best friends in the whole wide world. I didn't want to lose Brandon or Aurie and I had to push the thought away as I awaited the names.

It was almost impossible for Maya to stop from screaming. She knew she had to go to the Reaping. She knew she might be in the Hunger Games. She also knew this was the place her best friend was condemned to die. It wasn't the actual place of her death, but it was still hard for Maya not to collapse from the memories swimming around in her head. She tried to push them away, but she didn't really want to. If she pushed the bad memories away, she pushed away a little more of Estrella, and Maya didn't have much of her friend left as it was. She forced herself to walk forward, waiting for them to call the names.

I stand, fiddling with my shirt when my name is called. I stand in shock. Was that really my name? Everybody looks at me. I slowly make my way to the stage. Nobody voulenteers. I look at Fleur, standing with the girls and give a weak smile. After today, I most likely will never see her again.

When I heard the Brandon was reaped, I was shocked and didn't know what to say. I just stood there like a brick wall unable to move or say anything. I would have volunteered for him but I was a girl and that wasn't even possible. He looked over at me and tried to give me a smile, oh dare he just try to give me a smile! I might not see him again and he smiles at me..Wow. I'm not angry enough to really be mad at him though, it wasn't his fault. Why did he have to be reaped of all people? Wasn't anyone going to volunteer for him? Anyone? I looked over at Brandon again and I tried to give him a smile back. He couldn't really be leaving me..Could he?

I see Fleur try to smile back to me. Before I can do anything, I feel myself being shoved into the Justice Buliding where I have an hour for goodbyes. I sit down on one of the benches and wait. I'm sure somebody will visit.

I pushed my way through the crowds, I had to get there, I had to see him. I finally made my way there. Peace keepers guided me through and then pushed the doors open and I came running in. I came and hugged Brandon tightly, "You can't go." I say softly as tears run down my cheeks.

I see Fleur walk in and she tightly hugs me. A small year rolls down my face and I wipe it away but another comes. "I have to go." I look down. "I'm sorry. If I could choose I'd choose to stay. But it's not my choice."

"I know it's not your choice." I say quietly and I squeeze my eyes shut. They go tighter and tighter trying not to let any tears escape. "Brandon, this might be the last time we see each other again." I said and my opened to look at him. "If I only had just one more day with you I'd feel a bit better. I can't promise you I will watch all of the games, I will cheer you on though." I said sniffling.

I arrive just in time to hear my name called. My stomach nearly flips over. No way is this actually happening! But it is. I climb to the stage, half hoping that someone will volunteer for me, but I know that no one will. Soon, I am taken to the Justice building where I get to say good-bye. My father and brother come in, and we talk for a few moments. I'm too shocked to really say anything, so we hug eachother until the peacekeepers come and take my family away. I'm on my own.

"Why are you promising that?" I asked a new set of tears rolling down my face one by one. "You can't promise that, Brandon." I said, "You just can't, you don't know what the gamemakers will throw at you or how much everyone else has trained." After that I was silent for a long while.

I looked at Brandon and wiped my tears away but that was pointless, more came anyway. I was about to speak but he was becoming determined and it put a weak smile on my face. "What's your other motivation?" I asked looking at him and not daring to look away.

I see Fleur trying to wipe away her tears. I wipe them away for her, trying to stop the tears. "My other motivation Fleur," I give her tiny smile. "Is you." What a cliche line. Whatever, it's true. "I won't forget you during the games. Not for a minute."

He wiped away the tears that I missed and I looked at him giving him a small smile. When he told me that I was his motivation, of course it was cliche but it was cute. I managed to blush either way though. I pulled back from the hug for a bit and then unhooked my silver necklace that had been around my neck. It was custom made and it had my name on it. I took his hand and placed it there. "I know it's not much and it's not really for a token but this is so you can't forget me and so I'm always with you in the games, no matter what." I say.

When Fleur pulls away from the hug, I start thinking that I did something wrong. But no, it's to unhook her necklace. Then I realize she's giving it to me. "Fleur, I can't take this from you. It belongs to you."

I shake my head at him. "Brandon, I want you to have it." I say looking at him still holding it in his hand. "It's yours because I'm yours and I always will be." I said, it was cheesy and I was quite aware of it but I meant what I said.

"Then I'll keep it." I say and keep the necklace in my hand. "Fleur, if I die, will you still talk to me? I won't be able to answer directly but my spirit will find some way to answer." I wanted to know that she would still know me if I died, if she would forget about me or not.

I smiled at him weakly when he asked the question. "Of course I will talk to you, every day even if I have to sneak out in the middle of the night to be alone." I said and this only caused more tears to fall from my face. "I promise I wont forget you..If you die." I said.

I don't know if I can handle watching the games Brandon..I'll try but I can't promise." I said sniffling. "I already promised I wouldn't forget, I promise for the rest of my life living on earth you will not be forgotten, Brandon." I say as my lip trembled and more tears streamed down my face. "I love you too." I say just barely above a whisper.
