Where the hell was he? He didn't know. If only he could yell for the others to come and find him, then they'll be back to their old alliance. ut he froze. Was the alliance broken by the mutt attack? If he yell, would the carrers find him instead of Fern andJokk? Were they even alive? He shook his head, trying to rid it off the images that began to pile up on how they could die.

Ken wnadered around aimlessly, like a lost sheep. He was a lost sheep. Gripping his pack close to his body, his eyes darted around. And upon hearing a rustle in a near by tree, he began to panic, thinking multiple ways on how he should die. But if it were only some animals, he was sure to survive. He grabbed a knife on his belt and held it defensively, backing up against a tree to protect his back.

I nod and stand up. My eyes were set on the bats advancing. They were so close, and I had to run off. We might find Kenbert on the way off, but what were the chances of that happening. Slim, but not too slim. There were less than half of the Tributes left, and the Gamemakers wouldn't let us go on by ourselves for too long. There wasn't enough action. I only feared what kind of things we would have to go through to be brought together.

Glancing back into the sunrise, I sigh. I missed home, and I deeply wanted to survive. If I could survive, I would be able to care for my family. We would get to move from our beaten up, broken shack of a home to a mansion in the Winner's Village. We would be able to have a maid care for my parents, a chef cook our food, a nanny watch over Mari, and a chauffeur save Hade the walk to her job, which was all the way on the other side of District 5. I would be able to move Derek into one of the nice graveyards. The ones rich people were put in the ground in. The kind where people cleaned the ground, mowed the lawn, and replaced the drooping flowers.

And who knows? Maybe I would be able to live a normal life. I just wanted that. A normal life were what I worried about was popularity. Not hunting, finding food, or affording what I took in. Oh, that was the life.

Suddenly I was interrupted by a crazed screech; a bat that was making it's way slowly but surly towards us. I jumped in front of Fern, not willing to let the bat pierce her skin. Nothing was going to hurt her, and I wanted to make that clear. I was here now. I wasn't going to let a single thing get in the way of her life, even though I wanted to win the games more than anything in the world.

With my mind quick at work, I unzip my backpack, pull out my two knives, and ready myself. I use one to block the bat, shoving it an arm's length in front of me. If the bat could breach this knife, he would have the other one to pass before he would have to pass me, and then he would have to pass whatever else I could think of before he could get to Fern. She was surrounded by a wall of protection, even though my own life was a very high priority at the time. I readied and hardened by grip on the first knife. I sturdily adjusted my arm, the right one by the way, and narrowed by stare, focusing on the bat, and the bat only. My hard-beating heart almost burst my eyes, but I carefully calmed my breathing. I was ready for the attack and sure I could block it. And if that didn't happen? I could attack it? Or I could do both.

"Be ready, Fern."

Fern held her bow and arrow. She was exhausted, but her will to live was a lot stronger than her exhaustion. For a moment her heart skipped a beat, when she realized that the bats were multiplying. A wave of relief crashed over her when she realized that the mob wasn't increasing, just getting more widespread.

Either way, it wasn't good. A few bats came in their direction, but before Fern dared to shoot an arrow, Jokk lunged for one. When he missed, Fern gota bit worried. Fortunately for them, the bats seemed to be starting to retreat. Only a few dived down the mountain, and some screeched into the direction of the cave, but most of them continued their attack.

Watching the mob of bats, it took Fern a few seconds to realize a bat was coming her way. It was only a few feet away from her face when Fern reacted. It was too close to shoot an arrow, so she used the same method as before. The arrow wouldn't be as great of a weapon used like a sword, but it worked.

Concentrating on the furry mammal, she jabbed an arrow through the air, hoping it would hit flesh. Fern sighed, with exhaustion. Jokk didn't look too bad, but Fern felt tired, and weak. Fern knew, deep inside, she might not last that long. Taking a shaky breathe, she said, "...I think we should get away from here. It'd be safer; away from the bats!" Fern jumped when she saw a bat right behind her. She took another jab. "Oh, wait! The stuff!" Would it be easier to survive with the supplies, but risk dying from the bats, or try to live away from the bats, but without the supplies?

Suddenly the Canon Boomed through the night, a last salute to the District 11 boy, may his memory live on forever.

"Where are you dammit?"Ken cursed as a rabbit hopped out of the bushes. Sighing to himself, he was happy that the bats seemed to be a little farther than him. But where in the world were they? How in the world will he save them if they go out of his sight?

Then, a canon sounded, and he stiffened. Who got killed? If it was Fern, it means the alliance meant nothing to her anymore. But maybe it wasn't. He hoped it wasn't. He wished it was one of the other packs. That's right, and it wasn't Fern.

A bat appeared, screeching the air around it. Using one of his knives, he tried to stab it, hoping he'll kill it quick and find the others.

Jokk sighed. She was gone. He had completely zoned out, and he was lucky he hadn't died, that the bats hadn't killed him. "Fern! Wait! I'm coming!" He picked up his backpack and ran after his sweet, fellow tribute.

"I'm sorry about my zoning out. I was just thinking of Hade. I miss that girl. I bet you miss your family too, huh?" I wasn't ready to make this conversation though, so I quickly changed the subject. "We survived!" Jokk was almost laughing, and he tightly hugged Fern. "I'm glad. We'll make it through this."

Jokk knew only one of them could survive, it was a fact, but they could make it to the end together, and they would just have themselves to face. It was better than surviving alone. Being together was much better.

Jokk's feet slapped against the rock as he ran next to Fern, praying that the bats didn't follow. Poor Ken was left to face the bats alone. If he was strong, he'd make it. If he was already dead, eh had been a good partner, but taking the rabbit was the right thing to do. It weighed heavily in his pack.

"I guess their gone." Ken whispered to himself. Well, so much for the alliance. Grabbing a knife he had from a fallen bat, he tucked his remaining knives into his belt and wandered aimlessly. Where would he go now, he didn't know. Atleast he was still alive.

Taking his remaining supplies close to his body, he began to walk around, headed to no where in particular.
