Evie skipped along the way to the Upper District. She didn't really need anything, but she needed some fresh air and she figured a place where there might be a bit of an adventure was a good place to get it. Suddenly, something caught her eye. She turned the corner and stared. An old man was kicking a dog in the stomach. Evie's eyes narrowed. She marched up to the man and jabbed him in the stomach with her nail. "Who do you think you are? That dog did nothing to you!" she scolded, crouching to drag away the dog, which honestly just looked bored. The old man wrinkled his nose. "I ain't hurting this dog! He just came right up here and licked a spider off my shoe! I was trying to make it easier for 'im! What kind of person stops a dog from performing a public service?!" demanded the man. Evie looked down, embarrassed. The dog seemed unharmed, and unimpressed by her behavior. "Erm, well, uh, sorry, sir. I thought-" she suttered, but the old man had already shuffled away grumbling to himself, the dog trailing close behind, nipping at his boots. Evie sighed and leaned back against a wall. "Well, that was awkward..." she murmured to herself.

D I S T R I C T F I V E

Alyssa was just walking through the Upper District like she did most days when she saw an old guy kicking a dog. She was about to go up to him and tell him off, but another girl beat her to it. Turns out the guy actually hadn't been kicking the dog. Now Alyssa was glad she hadn't gone up to try and stop him. Alyssa watched the girl lean up against the wall and decided to go talk to her. "Hi." she said brightly. "I think it was really kind of you to try and protect that dog."

Evie turned to look at the girl who was talking to her. She smiled. "Oh, thanks. It doesn't mean anything, though. Just pissed off a random old guy, really. Not my finest moment." She curtsied anyway, and giggled. "Evelyn Northwood," she said, extending her arm to shake the girl's hand. "You can call me Evie. What's your name? Do I know you?"

"I don't think you know me." Alyssa said thoughtfully. "My name's Alyssa. And even though that dog wasn't really being hurt it was still good of you to stand up for it." While Alyssa was speaking she shook Evie's hand. Alyssa leant back against the wall and looked around thoughtfully. "So what brings you here?" she asked after a moment.

Evie shrugged. "I don't know... just walking around, really. I've been feeling a bit cooped up as of late, and I needed some fresh air," she said, tilting her head. "How about you? Looking to buy anything? Looking for a friend? Looking for someone in particular... a cute boy, say?" she teased, winking. "Don't worry, I'm just kidding. Really, though. Looking for a kitten? Hm, you know, I've got one of those, actually. H-he's... um... well, actually, I don't know where he's run off to, but I'm sure he's around here somewhere," she concluded, satisfied with her response, and smiled.

Alyssa snorted a Evie. A cute boy? Please, Alyssa had better things to do than look for one of those. They would have to come to her. Besides, she already had cute little siblings. She didn't really need another cute thing in her life. "Basically the same as you." she told Evie. "I'm just wandering around aimlessly. Do you know something I can do?"

Evie shrugged. "I dunno." Oh, thank god. This isn't one of those people who give you a whole monologue about some guy or girl or whatever floats their boat who they just met but think they've fallen in love with or hate and blah blah blah blah blah.... I hate those people. So annoying. Nice to know this girl isn't. At least, not right now, apparently. She thought to herself, relieved. Unless... maybe she is, but is hiding it, or just feels like not rambling on and on right now, which is actually something I totally do, but not about guys, buying stuff, or anything else I listed. I don't thjink I would if I could, although I don't know, because I have can or want to be able to. Maybe I'm secretly boy-crazy but don't know it. I doubt it, but I probably wouldn't be able to tell. Eh, never going to happen. I mean, seriously. It's not like I know much about looking for anything but Quoisey, anyway. "I guess... hm. No clue. How would I know? Like I said, I'm not doing much myself."

"Well, I've got no idea either." Alyssa said, with a sigh of regret. She hated being bored. And she hated not having anythig else to do. Well, they were actually the same thing. Alyssa gazed around the street, hoping for some inspiration. It was a bit awkward to just stand here without saying anything. Alyssa didn't really like silence, even a non-awkward one. They were too quite for her liking. Alyssa looked at Evie, hoping that she had suddenly thought of something.

Evie smiled shyly. "Um... so... do you have a pet? I mean, I guess I brought up my cat, so... you know what? Nevermind. Alyssa grinned. She didn't bother to explain that she didn't have apet. Instead she accepted a piece of whatever Evie had. Her eyes widened as Evie went super hyper. Not just regular hyper, super hyper. Alyssa fully expected her to start bouncing off the walls. She gazed down at the piece she had slightly nervously before popping it in her mouth. Who cares if she went hyper? Being hyper would probably be fun anyway. As soon as she bit down sugary goodness exploded across her tongue. Alyssa grinned again. "Oh my gosh! This is really good! How can your sister not like this? It's amazing!"

Evie grinned, jumping up and down with wide eyes. "I know, right? She likes salty stuff better. I don't know why. But I'm happy to take it off her hands." Her hair bobbed back and forth, flipping her hair around. "Heehee! This is so fun!!!! AAHHH, look at all the pretty lights!" she giggled, spinning around in circles and pointing happily at a candle in someone's window. "Oh, Flower'll have to brush my hair again, it's getting all tangles. It's okay though, she loves it. Then she'll braid it and I won't have to worry about bouncing! EEEEEEEEHHH! Let's go frolic!" she excalimed, squealing out the last few words, and grabbed Alyssa's hand, spinning and dancing and leaping down the street. "HEELLLLOOOOO PEOPLE!!!" she shouted to nobody in particular. "HELLLLOOOO WORLD! EEEEEHHH!"

"WAlyssa laughed as Evie started to get really hyper. Then she went into overload. She grabbed Alyssa and started spinning her around. Alyssa laughed dizzily and twisted out of Evie's grip. She was going to get way to dizzy if she remained in her hold. "Wow, you are the most hyper person I ever seen." Alyssa said. She meant it as a compliment.

Evie giggled, twirling around. "Thank you!" she chirped happily, genuinely pleased with the compliment. "Ooh, let's go knock on people's doors and sing carols! Maybe it'll cheer them up before the reaaaaaaaaaaapiiiiiiiiiiiing! Oh, gosh, I forgot about that. Hope I don't get picked! How 'bout you? Are yooooouuuuu nervous?" Evie trilled, her blue eyes bright with excitement. Even talking about something as depressing as the Reaping, Evie could be happy. At least, if she'd had enough sugar. "Oh, they must be sad! Even I'm sad, and I'm never sad! It's because I dance, you see.... it's impossible to be sad when you're dancing! Or twirling, at least! So let's go sing and dance with people! Make eeeevvvverybody happy! Eeeeeeeh!" she slammed into a wall and blinked, shaking out her head. "Ow," Evie remarked quietly, seeming confused and furrowing her eyebrows. Then, she got right back up again, smiled, and skipped down the alley, pulling Alyssa behind her. "Come on! We'll never make it to all the houses in time if we don't start now!"
