~I'm so sorry I missed all of this! At least I made sure Fern was asleep so she couldn't really have done anything while I was gone... xP Oh, well. Thanks for not attacking her while I was being inactive. (:

Fern woke up from her sleep, drowsily. It didn't seem like much later. Her quiver was still on her back, and her bow was beside her, to Fern's relief. She checked the pack. 7. Only 7 arrows left. She would have less, if she had tried to shoot them at the bats.

Sudden realization - she was in the middle of a battlefield. There was so much commotion, it took a while to process everything. Ken was covered in blood, and fighting for his life. He wouldn't last much longer, one on three, she needed to help.

Fern tensed. She could have sworn she saw movement behind a rock. Was it four on two? What if their alliance was even bigger? She forced a grin onto her face, there was no time for worry in the Hunger Games. She'd make it out... As swiftly as she could, she aimed her bow at the boy fighting Ken.

When Fern shot the arrow in the direction of the boy, she almost regretted it. Almost... She should be helping her alliance, right? But it would be much easier to still lie there. Pretend she was still asleep, and wait for a few of them to die off before going into battle. More strategic. Yet again, Ken would be dead by then. She had to keep him alive; he seemed to be doing well in a fight.

Jokk l Spaff

Jokk remained still, his muscles tense. Fern was up. He had to do something, anything, to help her. Still, he wasn't okay with risking his own life. He had made Hade a promise, a promise that he wanted to keep. He would stay as safe as he could, and he would try to not kill any others. He had only wounded the bats. That was the only thing he had done, as of now. He had tried to protect Fern, he had gotten her away from the bats, and now he just wanted to get her away from this battle.

Still, Jokk was determined to stay still. Without being shown, or hardly moving at all, Jokk shifted into a more comfortable position. He could see everything, but his messy hair kept him hidden. It swayed in the wind, much like the slim grass spread everywhere along. Jokk felt extremely safe, but he knew it wasn't that simple. If he made one faux paus, or false step, it could mean the end of the road for Mr. Spaff. He wasn't ready to let that happen.

So, from his perch, Jokk allowed his body to get stressed just enough to be extremely tense. If he needed to spring, well then, he was ready. His hair still swayed naturally in the wind, and his eyes still poke out from the side of the large rock, but other than that, he was all behind the rock.

'Stay Jokk. If needed, run away. If needed help out. Still, stay Jokk,' Jokk thought, his mind working on overdrive, his fight or flight instincts beginning to work.

Jokk stared in horror as Ken was injured once more. He wanted to do something, but this guy was good, whatever his name was. Jokk would be the underdog like Kenbert in that battle. It was best if he protected himself.

The only thing assuring Jokk that he was doing the right thing was his promise to Hade. He was going to survive, and bring home Mari something he found on the way. Now wasn't exactly the best time for souvenirs, though. If Jokk made one wrong move, he was toast. They would be able to find him, and if he was picking grass, or searching through pebbles, he would even make a noise. No. Mari's item could wait.

As Jacob made another shot, this one to the arm, Jokk flinched. Ken likely didn't have long to go. He probably really had a very short amount of time left. If Jokk had to actually fight for Ken, let it be that way, they were an alliance after all, but Jokk's eyes were set on the still healthy Fern. If he could get her out of here, they could survive on their own. Maybe. And then, they could refuse to kill each other. Everything would be fine. He wouldn't lay a hand on Fern, nor Ken, as of now. Still, it didn't look like Jokk would have enough time to lay even a finger on the other boy in his small, rag tag, alliance.

'Oh Father, the heavenly one, please spare Kenbert's life. Let there be a way for him to come back, maybe make a shot or something, I don't know. However you do that is up to you,' Jokk began, saying his prayer in his head. 'And please let Fern and I be spared as well. They see Fern. She is threatened. Please give me the power to defend her when I need to, after Ken gets out safe. Ken. Oh Ken. Let him live, Father. Amen.' Jokk opened his eyes and made sure he was still hidden. Everything was good, except for the severely injured Ken, and the unhidden Fern.

Ducking back, Jokk pulled his canteen of water to his mouth and took a slow sip. Everything was fine. He was soundless as he drank, and soon he closed the cap, only a small pop could be heard as he closed the cap, which got muffled as the wind blew by. Refreshed, Jokk slid the water into it's pocket, outside of his pack, and replaced it with a flab of meat. It was small, just a tiny piece of the bird. He had been saving this bird for a long time, and each bite was like having food for the very first time. He had never tasted anything so delicious, which was probably the hunger talking. Wrapping his bird pack up in it's plastic, Jokk returned to his regular spot, his hair still hiding him.
